When you know sleep eludes you, you’ll do anything to just get a good nights sleep.
You’ve tried the sleep hacks, the supplements, the this and that and nothing is working.
I don’t know about you, but getting into bed, when the lights are off, the room is quiet and the bedroom is cool, your mind can start to get busy. Running through the to do’s, the conversations you had or wished you’d had or the ones you’re thinking you need to have.
That voice in your head gets louder at night, and especially on an under recovered brain.
The solution isn’t more sleep hacks (although those are also important) it’s working on your ability to down regulate your nervous system. Most women are running on automatic pilot, we’re ready to jump at a moments notice to go fix. That keeps us “on” even when it’s time to be on “off”.
Practical tools (pick one or two, not all of them):
👉 A written brain-dump before bed — get the to-do list out of your head and onto paper
👉 Slow nasal breathing with an extended exhale (exhale longer than the inhale) — mechanically signals the parasympathetic system to engage
👉 A consistent low-stimulation wind-down ritual — dim lighting, no screens, the same 2–3 steps every night, so the body learns to associate the sequence with sleep onset
👉 Gentle stretching or mobility work rather than anything stimulating
Last thing, a consistent sleep–wake time, including weekends, matters more than total hours for how well the body actually uses the sleep it gets.
Try one of the above points tonight. I hope it helps.
