Ep 12: Dear Diary - What the NUCK!!! Should We Be Screening for Congenital Abdominal Wall Hernias?

My new Episode of Dear Diary: What the NUCK!!! is out on your favourite podcast platform.

Some congenital abdominal wall defects, such as indirect inguinal hernias and a persistent Canal of Nuck in women, may remain undetected for years or even decades. While many people never develop symptoms, others may experience chronic groin, pelvic, bladder, or abdominal pain without an obvious cause.

Could earlier recognition of congenital abdominal wall weaknesses help reduce years of misdiagnosis and improve patient outcomes?

This episode reflects my personal diagnosis journey and discusses current medical literature. It is intended for education and advocacy and is not a substitute for individual medical advice.

⚡ “I think I have neuropathy — what do I do now?” ⚡

If you’re feeling tingling, buzzing, burning, numbness, or weakness in your hands or feet, it’s normal to worry about neuropathy.

👉 Here’s the tricky part:

Some people have all the classic symptoms of B6 toxicity, but their blood levels still look “normal.”

That’s because B6 can build up in tissues and nerves even when it doesn’t show in blood work.

But remember: neuropathy can also have other causes — like diabetes, thyroid issues, autoimmune conditions, alcohol use, or even certain medications.

💡 What you can do now:

See your doctor — describe your symptoms clearly and ask about possible causes, including B6.

Check your supplements/foods — are you taking anything with added B6? Energy drinks, multivitamins, protein powders, or fortified foods often have hidden amounts.

Track your symptoms — note when they appear, what makes them worse, and any changes over time.

Keep an open mind — sometimes it takes ruling out other conditions before finding the true cause.

✨ Getting the right diagnosis takes time, persistence, and self-advocacy. Don’t give up — your symptoms are real, and answers are possible.

📌 Bottom line: Neuropathy is a signal that your nerves are under stress. Don’t ignore it — keep pushing for the care you deserve.

Nicole shares the “aha!” moment when she realised her symptoms could be connected to vitamin B6 toxicity—and began putting the pieces of her diagnosis story together.

This Short is taken from her full B6 Toxicity and Me: Diagnosis Stories interview. The full podcast is available on Spotify, Audible and other podcast platforms.

I’m sharing lived experience and personal perspectives, not medical advice.

Hernias in Women Aren’t the Same as Men! 🚫

Hernia diagnoses shouldn't rely solely on a 50-year-old male baseline. Women deserve accurate hernia checks and proper medical training across all bodies.

Episode 10 is out on all podcast platforms. Join me as I share my daily life heading into surgery for bilateral indirect inguinal and femoral hernias.
