Itâs SO easy to fall for someoneâs potential when you really like them.
I know because Iâve done it.
I once dated a man who was always talking about our future.
The house weâd have.
The money weâd make.
The holidays weâd take.
The life we were going to build together.
And I bought into that future because it sounded amazing.
But in the PRESENTâŚ
He was always busy.
There was never enough time for me or the relationship.
And I kept hearing some version ofâŚ
âOnce things settle downâŚâ
Once work calms down.
Once this project is finished.
Once life isnât so busy.
THEN weâd have the time.
THEN things would be different.
THEN weâd live this incredible future we kept talking about.
Except things never really âsettled down.â
The future he kept selling me never became our reality.
And looking back, I wish Iâd paid less attention to what he promised for someday and more attention to what I was actually experiencing TODAY.
That relationship taught me one of my biggest dating lessons:
Date people as if they wonât change.
Not because people canât growâŚof course they can.
But donât choose someone based on who they could become or the relationship they promise youâll have eventually.
Let them show you who they are NOW.
Then ask yourself:
âIf this never changed, would I still choose this person?â
Because thereâs a huge difference between building a future WITH someone and being continually sold one.
