🌊 OCEAN is celebrating World PT Day 2026!

This year’s focus is to highlight the role physiotherapists play in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease and stroke ✨

OCEAN is proud to support this important World Physiotherapy initiative and collect data to show the vital contribution physiotherapists make in the management of people with NCDs and improve outcomes for their patients 🌍

OCEAN comprises of three linked data collections 🌊

- Wave 1: Practice Profile – captures practice-level characteristics about all participating practices.
- Wave 2: Professional Profile – details characteristics of participating health professionals (general practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists and Aboriginal and/or Torres Straits Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners).
- Wave 3: Encounter data collection – collects structured data about the health professional's encounters with their patients.

✨ Together, the three waves help OCEAN create the evidence to strengthen Australian primary care ✨

🌊 Today, OCEAN and National Association of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Workers recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners on the National Day of Recognition. As Australia’s only culturally based health workforce, they play a vital role in delivering culturally safe care, strengthening trust in health services, and improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

This year’s theme: Many Paths, Many Ways, acknowledges the diverse journeys into the professions and the many ways the workforce makes a difference every day.

The OCEAN Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Health Practitioner stream is in development. Follow the OCEAN study social media platforms to hear about updates on this stream.
