This week with Ocean & Trail Escapes 🍀

Our focus this week was getting creative with art inspired by nature.

What we love most is seeing our participants enjoy the experience in their own way — whether that’s creating something, sharing a laugh, taking a quiet moment, exploring, or simply enjoying being out and about. And of course, those smiles, laughs and special moments make our day too. 💕😊

Here are a few moments from this week’s adventures. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

If you’re looking for something a little different, we welcome new participants to join us for small group outings, 1:1 support, or our weekend day trips — at a pace and level of support that suits you.

What a fun-filled week! 🌿☀️

Our groups have been out and about exploring the bush and beach, learning about nature and discovering what belongs in our environment and what doesn’t. 🌱🌊

Using their clipboard folders, they got hands-on with learning, exploring and identifying things along the way — while keeping active, building confidence and developing everyday living skills and independence.

So many adventures, laughs and great moments along the way! 💚🌳

Well this week we really lived up to our name - Ocean and Trail Escapes.

Middle Brother and Nature Bingo - always a challenge, but one that's eagerly accepted! They are a competitive lot but at the same time work well together. This was all celebrated with a birthday caramel mud cake for Cathy and fantastic views that just leave you in awe.

Now to the ocean! Whale watching from Port onboard the Wave Rider, an open rib boat with a protective roof. Our own retired skipper, Pete, made sure that everything was under control whilst the rest of us screamed with delight as we bounced over waves and caught up with a couple of whales. And yes, every tail has to have a pelican in it!!!

If you think that you missed out on some fantastic adventures - you are right! We have more weekend outings planned - just check out our page! Or join a group during the week though we can't promise mud cake every week!🤣

This week's beautiful weather provided the perfect opportunity to explore Myall Lakes National Park and Kerewong State Forest.

Participants faced a bit of an uphill challenge to fantastic vantage points, where they saw dolphins and whales along the coastline, as well as 360-degree views from Comboyne Rock. The excitement of travelling by 4WD to reach the rock made the adventure even more memorable.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the week was watching the camaraderie between participants. They pointed out wildlife and places of interest to one another, offered encouragement on the more challenging sections of the walks, and instinctively stepped in to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed extra support.

These shared experiences are what make our nature-based supports so valuable. They build confidence, resilience, teamwork and genuine friendships, while creating memories, caught on camera, that simply can't be made indoors.

A Tale of Two Ladies

We have had the privilege of being part of the team of NDIS providers supporting two wonderful women to secure rental accommodation in our local community.

Both ladies had experienced living situations that were no longer sustainable and needed the stability and security of a place to call home. While helping participants find housing may seem outside the scope of our nature-based supports, this journey actually began with something much simpler—time spent in nature.

Through meaningful, person-centred experiences in natural environments, both women gradually built confidence, resilience and greater independence, alongside the dedicated support of their multidisciplinary teams.

Although their journeys have been very different, nature has played a vital role for each of them.

One lady finds peace and calm in nature. The quietness of the bush and the coastline provides space for mindfulness, helping her regulate emotions and manage life's challenges.

The other thrives on movement and adventure. Nature gives her the opportunity to release energy, challenge herself physically and build confidence through active experiences.

This is the beauty of nature-based support—it doesn't look the same for everyone. It meets people where they are and provides opportunities to grow in ways that are meaningful to them.

Nature is one of the most powerful tools we have for improving physical health, mental wellbeing, emotional resilience and human connection.

Today, both women continue to receive our daily supports as they establish themselves in their new homes and develop the skills needed to live independently. As their confidence and resilience grow, our support gradually tapers, allowing them to take greater ownership of their lives.

There is no greater reward than seeing people achieve goals they once thought were out of reach. Watching these two women grow in confidence, secure stable housing and move towards independent living reminds us why we do what we do.

Every journey is unique. Every achievement is worth celebrating.

Dodgy weather wasn't going to rain on our parade this week! Our adventures always go ahead. It's just a matter of wearing the right clothing!🥶☔️🥾🧤

This week we made bacon and egg damper in a camp oven at Tapin Tops National Park, had a BBQ at Crowdy Bay National Park and enjoyed some physical activities innbetween showers.

And we also had time to squeeze in a visit to the Glasshouse Art Gallery to see some great artwork presented by high school students.

Rain or shine, there's always an adventure to be had with Ocean & Trail Escapes!

Anyone that is covered through NDIS is welcome. You don't need to be in our group outings or be joined to Ocean & Trail Escapes. Just come along for the day and meet new people. Have brunch with the alpacas.
What else could you ask for on a Sunday morning?
