Sudden One-Sided Chest Pain and Breathlessness? It Could Be a Pneumothorax.
A pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung, happens when air collects in the space around the lung and causes it to partially or completely collapse.
Possible warning signs can include:
• Sudden sharp chest pain, often on one side
• Sudden shortness of breath
• Rapid heartbeat
• Feeling light-headed or faint
• Chest tightness
• Symptoms that worsen quickly
A pneumothorax can sometimes become a medical emergency, especially if breathing becomes difficult or symptoms are severe.

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can assess ongoing respiratory concerns and guide you with appropriate investigations and referrals when needed.

Persistent Upper-Right Abdominal Pain and Fever? It Could Be Acute Cholecystitis.

Acute cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, often caused by a gallstone blocking the gallbladder duct. It can cause significant pain and may need urgent medical treatment.

Possible symptoms can include:
• Persistent pain in the upper-right abdomen
• Pain that may spread to the right shoulder or back
• Fever or chills
• Nausea or vomiting
• Tenderness under the right ribs
• Pain that becomes worse after eating, especially fatty foods

Because gallbladder inflammation can sometimes lead to complications, persistent or severe symptoms should not be ignored.

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can assess your symptoms and guide you on the appropriate next steps.

⚠️ Seek urgent medical care if the pain is severe or worsening, you have persistent vomiting, high fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or you feel very unwell.

**Diabetes Can Damage Your Eyes Before You Notice Vision Changes 👁️**

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the small blood vessels at the back of the eye. In the early stages, it may cause no obvious symptoms at all.

As it progresses, some people may notice:
• Blurred or changing vision
• Dark spots or floaters
• Difficulty seeing at night
• Reduced sharpness of vision
• Sudden changes in eyesight

Good diabetes management and regular eye checks are important because changes can sometimes be detected before you notice a problem yourself.

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can support your ongoing diabetes care, review your blood sugar control, and guide you with appropriate eye screening and referrals when needed.

If you experience sudden vision loss, flashes of light, or a sudden increase in floaters, seek urgent medical attention.

Ear Pain That Gets Worse When You Touch the Outer Ear? It Could Be Swimmer’s Ear. 👂

Otitis externa, commonly known as swimmer’s ear, is inflammation or infection of the outer ear canal. It can happen after swimming, moisture getting trapped in the ear, irritation from earbuds or hearing aids, or damage from scratching or cotton buds.

Common signs can include:
• Ear pain or tenderness
• Pain when touching or pulling the outer ear
• Itching inside the ear canal
• Redness or swelling
• Discharge from the ear
• A blocked or muffled feeling
• Reduced hearing in the affected ear

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can examine your ear, identify the cause, and recommend appropriate treatment to help relieve discomfort and prevent the problem from getting worse.

Avoid inserting cotton buds or other objects into a painful ear, as this can make irritation worse.

Seek urgent medical care if you develop severe pain, swelling spreading around the ear, high fever, dizziness, or feel very unwell.

Persistent fatigue, frequent infections or unexplained bruising? It’s worth getting checked.

These symptoms can have many possible causes, but when they keep happening together, they may need further investigation.

Leukaemia is a cancer of the blood-forming tissues that can affect how the body produces and uses blood cells.

Possible warning signs can include:
• Ongoing tiredness or weakness
• Frequent or recurrent infections
• Easy or unexplained bruising
• Unusual bleeding
• Looking pale
• Fevers or night sweats
• Unexplained weight loss
• Swollen lymph nodes

Having these symptoms does not automatically mean leukaemia, but persistent or unexplained changes should be assessed by a doctor.

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can review your symptoms, perform an examination, and arrange appropriate blood tests or further referral if needed.

Don’t ignore symptoms that keep coming back — get checked early.

Actinic Keratosis — Rough, Scaly Patches on Sun-Exposed Skin? ☀️

That rough patch on your face, scalp or hands might be more than just dry skin.
Actinic keratosis, also known as solar keratosis, develops from long-term sun exposure. While it isn't skin cancer, some lesions can develop into squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

What should you look out for?
• Rough, dry or scaly patches
• Pink, red, brown or skin-coloured spots
• Sandpaper-like texture
• Patches on the face, ears, scalp, hands or arms
• Spots that become thicker, tender or start bleeding

These changes can be easy to overlook, especially after years of sun exposure.

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can assess suspicious skin changes, discuss treatment options and arrange further investigation or specialist referral where needed.

Don't ignore a persistent rough patch — get your skin checked.

Bulging leg veins that ache, itch or feel heavy? It could be varicose veins.

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that commonly affect the legs. While some people see them as only a cosmetic concern, they can also cause discomfort and may need medical assessment.

Common symptoms can include:
• Bulging or raised veins
• Aching or heavy legs
• Itching around the veins
• Throbbing or burning discomfort
• Swelling in the lower legs or ankles
• Symptoms that worsen after long periods of standing

For some people, symptoms may become more noticeable later in the day or after prolonged standing or sitting.

At Tarneit Doctors, our GPs can assess your symptoms, discuss possible causes, and guide you on the next steps for management and treatment.

Don’t ignore ongoing leg discomfort — get it checked early.
