For 40 years, Daffodil Day has helped grow hope for people affected by cancer.

As one of the first flowers to bloom after winter, the daffodil symbolises strength, renewal and brighter days ahead. Daffodil Day also recognises the progress made through cancer research, prevention, early detection and improved treatment.

A cancer diagnosis can be an uncertain and difficult time for patients and their loved ones. Your GP can provide support at every stage, from discussing symptoms and arranging screening to coordinating specialist care, managing ongoing health needs and supporting recovery.

GPs can also help family members and carers access practical guidance and emotional support throughout the journey.

If you are living with cancer, caring for someone, or would like to discuss cancer screening, prevention or ongoing care, speak with your local GP.

Protect your baby against severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) during their first months of life with a maternal vaccination during pregnancy.

RSV is a common and highly contagious virus that affects the airways and lungs. It can cause serious illness, including bronchiolitis and pneumonia, and is a leading cause of hospitalisation for babies under six months in Australia.

Through the National Immunisation Program, eligible pregnant women can receive the RSV vaccine from 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Vaccination during pregnancy allows protective antibodies to pass through the placenta to your baby, helping protect them against severe RSV disease from birth and during their first few months of life, when they are particularly vulnerable.

Maternal RSV vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of severe RSV illness and the likelihood of hospitalisation during the first six months of life.

Vaccines recommended during pregnancy have been extensively assessed for safety. Most side effects are mild, such as soreness, swelling or redness at the injection site, tiredness, muscle aches or a mild fever, and usually last no more than two days.

Speak with your GP or contact our clinic to check your eligibility and book your vaccination appointment.

More than 90% of Australian tradies have experienced work-related pain or injury in the past year.

For many, the impact extends beyond discomfort. Research shows that 76% of tradies say pain significantly affects their quality of life, while 24% fear the physical demands of their work may force them to retire early.

Tradies National Health Month raises awareness of the physical and mental health challenges faced by people working in trade professions.

Work-related pain can affect your ability to stay on the tools, complete everyday activities and enjoy life outside of work. While it can be tempting to push through the pain, early support may help prevent an injury from becoming more serious or difficult to manage.

Your GP can assess your symptoms, discuss treatment options and help you develop a practical plan to protect your long-term health.

If pain or injury is affecting your work or wellbeing, book an appointment with your local GP today.

1 in 20 children are affected by a birth defect or genetic disease, including cancer, cystic fibrosis and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That is equivalent to 12 children every minute worldwide.

For many families, a diagnosis brings complex treatment, ongoing appointments and uncertainty about the future. While other children are playing sport or spending time with friends, those living with serious genetic conditions may be undergoing chemotherapy, taking multiple medications or recovering from major surgery.

Jeans for Genes Day raises awareness and funds vital research into genetic diseases, including gene therapies that aim to improve treatment options and find cures for conditions once considered incurable.

Your GP can support your child’s ongoing health needs, coordinate specialist care and referrals, monitor treatment and connect your family with additional services. They can also support the physical and emotional wellbeing of parents, siblings and carers during what can be a stressful and uncertain time.

If your child is living with a genetic condition, your GP is a trusted place to discuss their care and the support available to your family.

Book an appointment with your local GP.

A great day connecting with our local community at The Gap Football Club!

Over the weekend, our Walton Bridge Medical Centre team joined The Gap Football Club on the fields as part of our sponsorship partnership and ongoing commitment to supporting the local community.

The timing was extra special as we celebrate 60 years of Walton Bridge Medical Centre this month. For six decades, we’ve been proud to provide trusted healthcare and support to generations of families across The Gap and surrounding communities.

It was wonderful to meet players, families, and supporters and celebrate the strong community connections that make The Gap such a special place.

A stroke occurs every 11 minutes in Australia.

When a stroke strikes, every minute matters. Recognising the signs and acting quickly can save a life.

Remember F.A.S.T.:

• Face: Has one side of the face drooped?
• Arms: Can both arms be raised?
• Speech: Is speech slurred, confused or difficult to understand?
• Time: Time is critical. Call 000.

Stroke risk can be influenced by lifestyle, medical and uncontrollable factors. These may include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, being overweight, and a previous transient ischaemic attack, also known as a TIA.

Your GP can help assess your individual risk, manage existing health conditions and develop a practical prevention plan. This may include regular health checks, medication management and support with lifestyle changes.

For people recovering from a stroke, and for their carers, your GP can also help coordinate ongoing care, rehabilitation and support as you adjust to daily life.

Book an appointment with your local GP to discuss your stroke risk or the next steps in your recovery.
