I spend way too much time indoors.

Especially lately, while I’ve been working on my website. Hours disappear while I’m sitting in front of a screen, and before I know it, another day has passed.

This morning I walked outside and noticed something that made me stop.

So many of the plants in my garden are dying — or have already died — because I simply haven’t been out there watering them.

And I thought… maybe I need a little more sunshine and attention too. šŸŒ±ā˜€ļø

Yes, I’m outdoors on weekends when I’m at the markets, but during the week? Not nearly enough.

So when I listened to a two-hour interview with neurologist Dr Stasha Gominak, I took notice.

Dr Gominak has spent years exploring the relationship between vitamin D, B vitamins, the gut microbiome and sleep. One of her central ideas is that our increasingly indoor lifestyles may be affecting our vitamin D levels — and that vitamin D plays a much bigger role in our bodies than many of us realise.

Despite its name, vitamin D actually functions as a hormone.

And according to Dr Gominak’s work, our vitamin D status may also be connected to the quality of our sleep.

But it’s not as simple as ā€œget more vitamin D and sleep better.ā€

She proposes a fascinating relationship between vitamin D, the beneficial bacteria living in our gut, the B vitamins they help provide and the processes that allow us to reach restorative sleep.

It certainly gave me something to think about.

Perhaps my dying garden was a timely reminder that I've been spending a little too much time staring at a screen and not enough time outside.

So tomorrow, I think both the garden and I could use some sunshine. ā˜€ļøšŸŒæ

I’ll share a little more about what I learned from Dr Gominak about vitamin D, B vitamins and sleep — because it was fascinating.

This is something I’m learning about, not medical advice. If you’re concerned about vitamin D or considering supplementation, speak with an appropriate healthcare professional.

I wasn’t prepared for what happened on Saturday night.

My sleep had been deteriorating for a few days beforehand, but I could think of a variety of things that might have caused it.

On Friday night, I stayed up later than usual making bracelets for kids and then making cards to go with them. I thought perhaps I’d just pushed myself a bit too far. I was OK on Saturday morning, although a little tired from the poor sleep, and I went to the Sandgate Markets as planned.

What I had completely forgotten was the date.

Saturday was August 8 — 8/8 — the peak of what is known spiritually and astrologically as the Lions Gate period.

Then, at around 11pm on Saturday night, things became very intense.

I could feel what seemed like an enormous amount of energy flowing through my body and accumulating in my legs. They became numb, heavy and almost dead-feeling.

I got out of bed and did my usual vagal nerve exercises, but they didn’t make a whole lot of difference.

By morning, I had made the decision to stay home from the Tamborine Markets. Later in the day, at a much more civilized hour than I would normally arrive, I did go to the Northey Street Markets.

While I was there, I ran into a friend of mine who is an amazing herbalist and whom I don’t usually see at the market.

I asked him how he was.

He said, ā€œI feel very tired today. I just couldn’t sleep last night. Something is going on.ā€

That was my light-bulb moment!

I had completely forgotten about 8/8.

My husband Lewis and my daughter Danielle don’t experience the sensations that I experience. They aren’t as physically sensitive to these things. But I believe there are many people who do experience something and often don’t know what it is.

For me, this experience was very real.

Last night, August 9–10, I woke again at around 2am as that familiar sensation began building in my legs.

This time I decided to meditate.

Through intention, I imagined sending ā€œrootsā€ deep into Mother Earth and releasing the excess energy through them. I focused on clearing my own energy and protecting my auric field.

Afterwards, I managed to get a few more hours of sleep.

This morning I went outside, walked around the garden in my bare feet and watered everything while I was out there.

And today I feel a lot better.

Whether other people experience Lions Gate the way I do or experience nothing at all, this weekend reminded me of something important: I need to listen when my body is telling me something and give myself permission to slow down.

Saturday probably wouldn’t have felt quite so intense for me if I’d remembered 8/8 and prepared myself for it.

I can assure you of one thing...

I won’t forget again. ā¤ļø

It’s cold this morning! 6 degrees Celsius. I look like the Michelin man - 2 coats, scarf and a beanie!

Tomorrow will be the same as Lewis and I climb up Tambourine Mountain to see the lovely people there.

It’s beginning to warm up now and the beanie is going and one coat has already gone.

It’s going to be a gorgeous day! And tomorrow promises to be the same. I love our winter weather but it can be a bit brutal in the early morning.

I spent my day making bracelets for kids yesterday. My other bracelets are usually too big for them so I’ve adjusted the size and created a kids collection.

Kids are naturally drawn to gemstones and to be honest, my daughter Danielle, was the reason for my interest in gemstones in the first place. Whenever I went anywhere with her, if there were gemstones there we had to check them out. She has quite a collection of gemstones and crystals herself.

People are starting to drag themselves out of bed and come to the markets and the market should start getting busy soon.

šŸ’§ How much water is healthy?

When I was in hospital recently with a bladder infection, one of the physiotherapists gave me some advice that surprised me.

Like many people, I'd always heard that the more water you drink, the better.

She explained that this isn't always the case, especially as we get older, because drinking too much can put extra stress on the bladder.

The handout she gave me said:

"Drink about 1.5 to 2.0 litres of fluid per day (water is best)."

I'd honestly never heard that before.

Of course, I realise that things like hot weather, exercise and some medical conditions can change how much fluid we need. Queensland summers are certainly a good example of that!

For me, though, it was a reminder that more isn't always better and that it's worth asking questions when we receive new advice.

I'm still learning, just like everyone else.

Have you ever been given a piece of health advice that made you stop and think?

I'd love to hear about it.

I’ve been thinking about the health and life changes we don’t always talk about honestly.

Some become more common as we get older—sleep disruption, bladder or prostate concerns, changes in mobility, lower energy and worries about maintaining our independence.

But many are not exclusive to older people.

Recovery from illness, infection, surgery, cancer treatment or an extended period of stress can affect people at many stages of life. It can change our energy, skin, strength, confidence and ability to manage everyday responsibilities—sometimes while we are still working or raising a family.

There can also be loneliness, changing relationships, an empty nest, loss of confidence or uncertainty about our purpose and what comes next.

Much of the wellness content we see seems to fall into one of two extremes: accepting that decline is inevitable, or watching exceptionally fit people doing things that many of us cannot realistically imagine ourselves doing.

I believe there is a more honest and supportive place in between.

We cannot control every change that comes with ageing, illness or life circumstances, but we can often improve how we feel and function through a realistic combination of supportive practices.

That might include appropriate movement, nourishing food, better rest, medical care when needed, social connection, nervous-system support, practical adaptations and finding or renewing our sense of purpose.

Nothing on its own is a miracle solution—but several sensible, life-supporting practices working together can make a meaningful difference.

I would genuinely love to hear your thoughts:

What is one aspect of ageing, recovering from illness or adapting to changes in your health that you believe people don’t talk about honestly enough?

You’re welcome to comment below or send me a private message if you would prefer.

I’m asking because I want to create something useful for real people living real lives—not something based on impossible ideals.

Winter Self-Care Isn't Selfish—It's Smart ā„ļø

Winter can be tough on your skin. Cold air, wind and indoor heating can all leave it feeling dry, tight and uncomfortable.

One of the biggest misconceptions in skincare is that hydration and moisturising are the same thing. Hydration adds water to the skin, while moisturising helps your skin retain that moisture and supports its natural protective barrier.

One product I rely on every winter is Moringa oil. While it isn't a hydrator like hyaluronic acid, I find it helps nourish my skin and lock in moisture, leaving it feeling soft, comfortable and protected throughout the colder months. In fact, during winter it has become my personal alternative to a conventional store-bought moisturiser.

Of course, great winter self-care goes beyond skincare. Staying hydrated, enjoying nourishing meals, getting enough rest and taking a little time each day for yourself all contribute to feeling your best.

This winter, don't forget to look after yourself. Self-care isn't selfish—it's one of the smartest things you can do.

✨ Read our latest blog to discover simple winter self-care tips and learn why Moringa oil has become an essential part of my daily skincare routine.

🌿 Did you know that Moringa Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the moringa tree—not its leaves?

Sometimes called ā€œBen Oil,ā€ it is naturally rich in oleic acid, a fatty acid also found in olive oil. This helps the oil soften the skin and support its natural moisture barrier—particularly valuable as our skin becomes drier with age.

Moringa Seed Oil is also unusually resistant to oxidation. Historically, this made it valued by perfume makers because it could absorb and retain delicate fragrances without spoiling quickly.

At Luv Your Age, we love using it as the final step in a simple hydration ritual:

šŸ’§ Apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum to slightly damp skin
🌿 Follow with a few drops of Moringa Seed Oil
🤲 Gently press it into the face, neck and décolletage

The serum attracts hydration, while the oil helps soften the skin and seal that moisture in.

Have you tried Moringa Seed Oil on your skin? Tell us where you use it—face, body, hands or hair.
