We spend so much time talking about our inner child, but what about our inner teen?

Lately, that’s where my focus has shifted.

If that thought instantly stirred something in you, I gently suggest you explore it too. No more shame. No more regrets. No more embarrassment. That version of you deserves love just as much.

Now… onto the card.

💚 Love Your Inner Child

We all carry an inner child within us. This part of our psyche is vulnerable, sensitive, carefree and still capable of awe and wonder. It is the part of us that laughs freely, jumps in puddles and sees animals hidden in the clouds.

When a child is taught to fear, reject their emotions or suppress who they are, that wounded child often grows into an adult still carrying those unseen hurts. As a way of coping, they may develop behaviours that protect them from having to remember. They may become perfectionists or people-pleasers, believing that sensitivity, vulnerability, play and nurturing are signs of weakness. Asking for help can feel impossible when they’ve convinced themselves they must always be the strong one.

Working with your inner child asks you to revisit parts of your past, and that takes courage—especially when it involves looking at your relationships with family and primary caregivers.

This isn’t about blame.

It’s about recognising that a child is never responsible for the actions or behaviours of the adults around them. Shame and guilt were never yours to carry.
