It’s Dementia Action Week 💜

This year, Dementia Australia is encouraging Australians to start talking about dementia — because conversations can make a difference.

Dementia is not a normal part of ageing, and it can affect people in different ways. Yet it can sometimes feel difficult to talk about changes in memory, thinking or behaviour, whether it’s happening to you or someone you care about.

Starting the conversation can help people feel less alone, encourage earlier support and improve understanding around dementia.

If you’ve noticed changes in yourself or someone close to you and you’re concerned, talking with your GP can be a good place to start.

This Dementia Action Week, let’s make dementia something we feel more comfortable talking about. 💜

For information and support, Dementia Australia’s National Dementia Helpline is available on 1800 100 500.

On Sunday morning Leah, Karina, family and friends came together at sunrise to take part in the Out of the Shadows 9km charity walk along Currumbin Beach. 💜

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported them along the way.

This year's walk raised an incredible $2486, bringing their total raised over the past three years to $8179 — enough to help answer 209 calls from Australians reaching out for support in times of crisis.

Walking side by side is a powerful way to remember those tragically lost, bring people together and shine a light of hope for those who may be doing it tough.

We’re proud to support the work of Lifeline and the important role they play in supporting our community. 💙

R U OK? 💛

R U OK? Day is a reminder that a simple question can open the door to an important conversation.

Checking in with a friend, family member, colleague or someone in your community can make a meaningful difference. Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is simply ask, listen and let someone know they’re not alone.

If someone says they’re not OK, take the time to listen without judgement and encourage them to connect with the support they need.

And remember, looking after your own wellbeing matters too. If you’re finding things difficult, speaking with your GP can be a good place to start.
This R U OK? Day, check in with someone you care about. 💛

Are you really OK?
