Sleep safety is an important topic. These are ways to reduce risk when baby is sleeping on their own sleep surface, but as anyone whose actually been a parent will know sometimes (or a lot of the time) babies have other ideas about sleeping in their own cot. That’s where we need to be talking about risk minimisation when it comes to safer co-sleeping.

The large majority of parents will end up co-sleeping (sharing a sleep surface) with their baby at some point, whether that’s planned or not. But it’s much safer when it’s planned because we have the opportunity to consider how to address the things that we known can increase the risk.
Have you heard of the Safe Sleep 7? This is a quick reference guide to help you consider and reduce the risks incase you end up co-sleeping.

Basis also has lots of useful information on baby sleep that’s worth checking out.

Yes, you can breastfeed here — and wherever you and your baby need to.

In Australia, breastfeeding in public is a legal right. Whether you’re at a café, park, shopping centre, beach or travelling on public transport, you have the right to breastfeed anywhere you’re legally allowed to be.

You cannot be asked to stop, cover up or leave because you’re breastfeeding.

🌎🤱 Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

Breastfeeding is more than nutrition. It is an investment in healthier families, stronger communities, and a healthier world. Supporting breastfeeding helps improve infant and maternal health, reduces healthcare costs, and gives babies the healthiest possible start in life.

At the InfantRisk Center, we're proud to support that mission every day. Every phone call we answer, every medication we evaluate, every resource we create, and every healthcare professional we educate helps parents make informed, evidence based decisions. When families have access to accurate information, they are empowered to continue breastfeeding safely and confidently when it is right for them.

This week, we're celebrating the healthcare professionals who make that possible!

🎉 GIVEAWAY! 🎉

To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, we're giving away a 3 month subscription to the InfantRisk HCP App, your trusted resource for evidence based medication safety information during pregnancy and lactation.

Just download the app from your app store and you should be good to go. Let us know if you have any issues, and we'll be happy to help.

Together, we can ensure that every family has access to the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions about breastfeeding.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week! 💙

Most Australian mothers start out breastfeeding, but many are unable to continue for as long as they intended. This isn’t a lack of motivation - it reflects a gap in support.

This World Breastfeeding Week, ABA is calling on:

💜 Mums, parents and families to connect with trusted breastfeeding information and support through ABA.
🩺 Health professionals to refer families to the National Breastfeeding Helpline, LiveChat, local groups and evidence-based resources.
🏛️ Policymakers to strengthen the regulation of infant formula marketing in line with the WHO Code, helping protect families from inappropriate commercial influence.

When we strengthen the information, services and protections that work, more families can achieve their breastfeeding goals.

Learn more about our Free 2 Feed campaign, write to your local MP and read our World Breastfeeding Week media release: aba.asn.au/wbw2026.
