Officially 4 years of Halo ExercisePhysiology!

Apologies for the long absence on social media. It turns out that when you are running a business, looking after young kids and doing life, there isn't much time to update social media. Even though I haven't been present on here, I am still working away helping women enhance their health, strength, and function 💪

It's that time of year again when I take a much needed break with my family. During my time off, I will be uncontactable by phone but will be checking my emails every few days. Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas and I'm looking forward to seeing you all in the new year 🎄

🎄 CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS 🎄
24th December - 14th January

That's a wrap on 2023! I just made it to the finish line stumbling over line with a cold for the last 3 clinic days of the year. I am taking a well needed 3 week break this year to relax (and catch up on admin 🤦‍♀️)

Thank you to all of my wonderful clients who have made this year great! Can't wait to keep helping you all in the new year!

Merry Christmas!

🌟DEEP CORE & PELVIC FLOOR

Here is 3 of my favourite exercises for learning to coordinate and engage to pelvic floor and abdominals.

These exercises are great for anyone who is post partum, has diastasis recti, has back pain or pelvic floor dysfunction or feels like their core is weak.

🌟 Strengthens the deep core
🌟 Strengthens the pelvic floor
🌟Improves pelvic stability
🌟Improves pelvic floor function

❤️ Save this post and give the exercises a try!

❤️ Reach out if you need help with improving your core and pelvic floor strength

* if you are newly post partum or have had abdominal surgery please get clearance from your health care provider before starting.
** even better would be to book for an intial assessment so assess your function and taikor your exercise program to your individual needs.

OUT OF OFFICE

Hi guys, just a little life/clinic update... I will be out of the gym/clinic for the next 3ish weeks, hopefully to return mid November. I am currently at home on bed rest recovering from hernia and diastasis recti repair surgery. Currently, feeling pretty stiff and sore and a little stir crazy being stuck in bed but otherwise well. Looking forward to being able to start moving around.

If you have emailed or called, I will be getting back to my emails and voicemails tomorrow. Should probably start catching up on the reports I have due too 🤣

I am thinking about documenting my rehab/return to exercise for education. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will.

WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY

Osteoporosis is a condition that impacts your bone mineral density leading to thin and weak bones.

Osteoporosis is the leading cause of fractures in post menopausal women.

Did you know that osteogenic exercise plays an important role in increasing and maintaining bone mineral density. Maintaining an active lifestyle throughout the life span can reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis.

If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia a tailored exercise program prescribed by an exercise physiologist that includes weight bearing exercise, resistance training and balance exercises will be vital to managing the condition.

If you would like more information, please reach out.

July is DIASTASIS AWARENESS MONTH so lets increase our knowledge of what it is and reduce fear of movement!

Diastasis recti is 100% normal in pregnancy and often heals on its own.

You CAN and SHOULD do core exercises when you have a diastasis!

If you have a diastasis and are unsure what is safe or would like help to heal your diastasis I CAN HELP!

I can work with you to prescribe a tailored core rehabilitation program that can reduce the appearance of your diastasis and increase your core function.

If you would like to know more about the program send me a DM or email or have any questions about diastasis comment below!

WHAT IS AN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST??

Essentially we use exercise as medicine to treat injuries or manage chronic health conditions or disabilities.

I personally work with females to improve their health and wellbeing. I use exercise to treat pelvic floor dysfunction, diastasis recti, sports injuries and provide safe exercise interventions for pregnancy and post natal women and disabilities.

Lets talk about motivation!

I am quite often asked “How do you stay motivated to exercise?” Truth is, I don’t! Sometimes I can’t be bothered, I’m tired, I have housework/errands/work to do, the kids need me. Some days after being in the gym all day last thing I want to do is hang around after I have finished to do a workout. So you are wondering, if I don’t always have motivation to exercise, how do I make sure I stay fit strong and healthy???

Firstly, I find a type of exercise that I enjoy! For me that is team sport! Sports for me ticks so many boxes, I am a naturally competitive person, its keeps me physically fit, I get to hang out with my friends and it’s a mental break from life stress. I have committed to my team, so when I don’t feel motivated I am still going to go because I don’t want to let them down. For you it might be a dance class or your favourite gym class. Find something you enjoy and do it with your friends, you will still want to go, even when you are feeling tired.

Secondly, find your why! Why do you want to exercise? Is it because you have been told you have to? If that is the case of course you don’t have any motivation to exercise. For me I know how important exercise is for not only my physical health but my mental health too. I feel good when I am fit and strong, I also feel like a better parent when I am at my best physical and mental health! For you it maybe to be able to run around after your kids or it maybe a way to destress after a hectic day at work. Find your why and you will be much more likely to want to exercise.

Lastly, don’t make exercise a punishment! If you only exercise because you have eaten “bad foods” or “over eaten” you will come to resent exercise. Every time you want to exercise it will feel like a chore and eventually you wont want to do it anymore!

Just check out the photo above, smiling doing hill sprints! Who does that? Someone who is having fun with friends!

I would love to know… What if your favourite type of exercise and what is your WHY? If this post has helped you, please comment, like and share. That way I know to keep posting ❤️

Introducing COURTNEY SMITH...

Halo Exercise Physiology's first ever sponsored athlete!

plays will be playing her first season of SANFLW for .

I am thrilled to be able to sponsor Coutntey, a local female athlete. As everyone probably already knows, I'm passionate about women being able to play sport, especially football. I have also been a Centrals supporter since I was a little kid so when the opportunity came to sponsor one of their athletes I jumped at the opportunity.

Courtney is a tough, hardworking talented footy player and Mum. I can't wait to watch Courtney and the Centrals girls smashing it on the field this year!
