Just scrolling through TikTok, as many of us do, and I came across a video titled: “Here’s what all NDIS providers need to know…” (it was about building team culture).

It got me thinking.

Firstly, we need to stop referring to ourselves as NDIS providers.

We are disability service providers.
The NDIS is a government funding model that pays invoices. Our work sits within the broader community services sector, which can involve multiple funding streams including privately funded clients.

I have been in this sector for over 20 years, well before the NDIS was introduced. For me, starting my own company was a natural progression in my career not a decision driven by opportunity alone.

I am a small provider in a large and growing sector, doing my best to deliver quality, ethical support. While there are many providers doing the right thing, there are also some who are not, and whose intentions are not aligned with best practice.

It is no surprise that members of the disability community are expressing that they feel like “cash cows.”

Language is where this begins.

If we want to improve the standard of care and rebuild trust, we need to start with how we position ourselves and the work we do.

Just my thoughts this morning. ✌🏻 🌻

What does “neuroaffirming support” actually mean?

It’s something to be understood, respected, and supported.

A neuroaffirming approach means:

✔ Valuing different ways of thinking and experiencing the world
✔ Creating environments where people feel safe and validated
✔ Supporting autonomy and individual choices
✔ Building support around the person not forcing the person to fit the system

Every individual has unique strengths, needs, and goals. That’s why we tailor our supports so each participant receives care that truly reflects who they are.

Because real support starts with respect.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week 💛

This week is about recognising, understanding, and celebrating the incredible diversity of human minds.

At Inclusive Care Choices, we hold space for both truths…
Neurodivergence can come with real challenges in systems that aren’t always built to support different ways of thinking, feeling, and experiencing the world. And those challenges deserve to be acknowledged, validated, and supported.

But this week is also about celebration.

Celebrating creativity.
Celebrating deep thinking.
Celebrating unique perspectives.
Celebrating the strength it takes to navigate a world that often doesn’t fit.

Most importantly, it’s about community.

When neurodivergent individuals, families, and supports come together we share knowledge, lived experience, and strategies that truly make a difference. We learn from each other. We lift each other. We create safer, more inclusive spaces together.

Because no one should have to figure it out alone.

Let’s continue building a community where differences are not just accepted… but valued.

💛

🌟 Neurodiversity Celebration Week is on now! March 16th – 20th
🧠 Neurodiversity means that all our brains work in different ways.

🌈 Everyone thinks, learns, feels and understands in their own way, and this is what makes us human.

🤝 This week, we celebrate the strengths and perspectives of neurodivergent people and promote inclusion and understanding.

🌐 You can check out the Neurodiversity Celebration Week website for useful resources and free online events: https://www.neurodiversityweek.com/resource-hub

❓ What are you doing this week to celebrate? Let us know in the comments.

🤩 We love hearing about different organisations and resources that support neurodiversity!
