Celebrating Pride Month
Students and staff are invited to join the fun this Friday 19 June in the quad at lunch time. Youth services including headspace and Eurobodalla Youth will be there with heaps of fun activities, as well as games, music and bubbles! Wear Rainbow m***i to support the LGBTQIA+ community and stand up for inclusion, belonging and diversity at MHS.
Why do we celebrate Pride as a school?
Textseeing trusted adults openly demonstrate inclusion can have a powerful impact. Research consistently shows that LGBTQIA+ students experience higher rates of bullying, discrimination, social isolation, anxiety, depression and self-harm than their peers. Studies in Australia have found that many LGBTQIA+ young people do not feel fully safe or accepted at school, and that supportive school environments are associated with significantly better mental health, wellbeing and educational outcomes.
The Department's policies emphasise that every student has the right to learn in an environment where they feel safe, respected and included. By wearing rainbow colours on Pride Day, you are helping to create a visible culture of inclusion and demonstrating support for students who may otherwise feel unseen or uncertain about whether they belong.
