Lately I've been exploring the idea that there really aren't "advanced" yoga poses.
Our bodies adapt. As we become stronger and more flexible, the shapes may change, not because they're better, but because we need a different shape to experience the same sensation, challenge or stretch.
The Yoga isn't the pose.
The yoga is what happens within you while you're in the pose.
It's learning to notice. To listen. To respond with awareness instead of habit.
It's adjusting your alignment so your body feels supported, stable and comfortable enough to breathe, even when the sensation is strong. It's noticing the difference between a healthy stretch and unnecessary strain. It's recognising when the wrong muscles are taking over and learning a more sustainable way.
This photo is another teacher adjusting me.
Not because I don't know the pose, but because there is always something to learn. Another perspective. A refinement. A reminder.
Yoga invites us into a conversation with our bodies.
To move with greater attention, awareness and care.
To strengthen the mind in moments of challenge, whether that's through the intensity of a posture, the discomfort of stillness, or a class that asks more of us than we expected.
It asks us to soften our ego and remain teachable.
Because no matter how long we've practised, we are always students.
And perhaps that's one of the most beautiful parts of yoga.🤗🙏🏼
