I’ve not shared my experience yet with Mary Magdalene and the cave she spent her last years in when we visited France with Devotion Retreats 🌹.
There has been a lot going on in my life since returning and the experience and the feelings I felt in that cave to be honest I’m still processing.
What I can share is this…
Every step towards that cave I could feel an intensity building. Every breath I took walking up that hill I could feel an anticipation.
Every part of that walk I felt for her footsteps, she would have walked those paths many times, you could feel her presence.
They say women who visit this sacred space are transformed on some deep level. I can imagine this would be different for each of us.
As I walked around the space I was hearing messages like this is where she slept, this is where she was taken up by the angels, this is where she wept. It was like I was being told how she moved through the space. I was urged to place a candle by the waters in the lower chamber and I did, I then placed my hand in that water and could instantly feel an overwhelming grief, she had cried many tears in that body of water grieving for Jesus.
I sat through the entire service that was opened by a woman singing and it was so incredible, her voice in that space was transcending! I took the bread (the body of Christ) off the priest as he spoke the most beautiful French words that I had no idea what he was saying.
I just felt it I felt it all. I don’t know what changed in me that day, but I do know what I felt. Pure , pure love the ache of the heart of a woman for a man.
Many of us have this an ache a pain we learn to live with it Mary lived in this cave with her ache. It was so full of emotion and wonder. 2 of us stayed while the others left. We left arm in arm supporting each other not really knowing why we were crying so much. But now having written this I understand. Love can bring us to our knees it can be so joyful and so heart achingly beautiful.
Mary wept in this cave she poured her absolute heart out here.I can only imagine the beauty and the love that was given when they were reunited. May we all feel that love in our hearts for another and for ourselves.
