The SE Melbs homebirth meetup is on next week!

It seems like the weather may not be great - we never know with Melbourne though so I’ll keep an eye out on the forecast, and will post updates here and in the group chat in case we move the meetup indoors.

The meetup is a very casual catch up with other likeminded mums. Anyone with a respectful interest in homebirth is welcome 💜

Happy World Doula Week! I love this work so much, and always feel so grateful when I get feedback like this 🥰

I can’t celebrate this week without also celebrating the incredible women who invite me into such a sacred time in their lives.

I am forever in awe of how bloody amazing women are and this one is no exception. She worked so hard to bring her beautiful girl earthside, and I feel so privileged to have witnessed her strength 💜💜

Life lately 💜

So far 2026 has been filled with adventures, slow days at home, and time with my fam.

I’m back on call this week, feeling refreshed and ready to hold space for some incredible families this year.

I still have a couple of spots left for birth support, but they are limited. If you’ve been thinking about adding a doula to your support team, send me DM so we can chat.

Ok, grab a coffee cos it’s story time.. ☕️

Before I was pregnant with my second baby I already knew I was going to have a homebirth. Except I didn’t even know it was a legit option people actually chose. My thought process was just “there’s no fkn way I’m having my next baby in a hospital.”

Then I found , went down a homebirth rabbit hole, and before I knew it I was pregnant and planning my own homebirth 🥺

I attended a meetup, listened to women sharing their stories, and loved the sense of community.

So obviously I had to start a local meetup group. Mainly because I knew literally NO ONE else who had a homebirth, and here I was planning my own 🙃 But also because, despite all the baby rhyme time groups and whatever else is out there, I still felt like I hadn’t found my people.

It’s now been almost 2 years, and I’ve met many women all with a unique story to tell.

I’ve realised that it’s less about what our birth story is - and more about connection, and having a place where we feel welcomed and seen.

We may talk about homebirth a little. But we also talk about motherhood and all its beautiful challenges. All while feeding babies and chasing toddlers.

Our group is small, but it’s bloody amazing.

And it’s made me think about all the women who are also looking for community. A space where they can breathe, be themselves, and fill their cup. Somewhere aligned with their values, where they won’t be judged for their choices.

I also recognise that homebirth is a privilege that is not accessible to everyone (even though it should be) - and I want to hold space for women on their homebirth journey, but I also want to create an inclusive space for anyone who feels that there is a place for them in our group.

Does that mean there might be a separate meetup in the future? Maybe (especially if there’s lots of interest).

But for now, if you’ve read this far and it resonates with you - no matter where you’re at in your parenting journey (pregnant, postpartum, older kids) - I would love for you to come join us.

Our monthly homebirth meetup is on next Friday!

Open to anyone with a respectful interest in homebirth - whether you’re planning one, have had one, transferred, are curious to learn more, or you’re a birth worker.

Kids are welcome, we have a few in our group.

I also want to extend this invitation to anyone who might be struggling to find their people. If you’re looking to connect with a community of likeminded people, you are welcome to join us.

All I ask is that everyone comes with respect for each other and their choices.

This is a safe, supportive space to connect. 💜

I’m not sure what the weather is doing next week, but if it’s not great we’ll meet indoors. Updates will be shared in the WhatsApp group. If you’d like to join the chat, send me a DM.

Firstly, follow for more birth prep content 🔥

Ever wondered why labour often starts at night?

It’s not a coincidence.
It’s hormonal.

In order for labour contractions to begin, you’re gonna need a whole lotta oxytocin.

It’s been dubbed the “love hormone” because it peaks during moments of connection, safety, and intimacy.

But it’s also the hormone responsible for stimulating contractions during labour.

And oxytocin works best under very specific conditions:

✨ darkness
✨ privacy
✨ calm surroundings
✨ feeling safe and undisturbed

Kinda like the conditions you have when you’re tucking yourself into bed, right?

At night, your body also produces more melatonin - the hormone that helps you sleep 💤

Fun fact: Melatonin actually supports oxytocin in labour, and can help with labour progress.

Humans, like other mammals, are biologically wired to birth in environments that feel safe and protected. Which is why labour often begins when the lights go out. 🕯️

Birth isn’t just a physical event.
It’s a hormonal one.

Understanding how hormones impact labour can help you feel better prepared for birth.

I’ll be completely honest…
When I prepared for my first birth, I thought a calm birth meant being quiet and chill AF.

But that’s just not how I experienced labour, so I thought I must have done something wrong.
Because all the girlies in the birth videos I watched were absolute zen queens. 🧘🏻‍♀️✨

Then came my second birth (a fully physiological homebirth) and I finally understood something I wish I knew earlier…

👉🏻 A calm birth isn’t about what it looks like.
It’s about how you feel.

Turns out I labour loud.
Because labour is intense (who knew? lol 🔥😅)
And I felt safe enough to fully surrender to that intensity.

So if making noise or the thought of losing control in labour worries you, here’s your reminder:

It’s ok to let it all out 🤍
Your nervous system needs safety, not silence.
