Bay Medical Group Bay Medical Group operates two sites - Soldiers Point Medical Centre and Salamander Medical Centre. Both centres are a bulk billing practice.

We aim to provide comprehensive healthcare services, promoting health and well-being as well as managing illness. Bay Medical Group endeavours to provide the highest standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness. We are committed to the Port Stephens Community by promoting health, wellbeing and disease prevention to all patients. We do

not discriminate in the provision of excellent care and aim to treat all patients with dignity and respect. The Nelson Bay Medical Centre was the first practice on the Tomaree Peninsula. It was started some years after World War II when Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay were host to allied naval forces. Over the years, as the area has grown, practices were opened at Salamander Bay and Soldiers Point. All three surgeries provide for the medical needs of the local population and visitors who may require attention. We are an accredited practice and are dedicated to the training and support of medical students and registrars.

Protecting your baby against influenza starts when you're pregnant.

For every pregnancy and at any stage of pregnancy, it is safe and recommended for women to get a flu shot yearly. Changes to immune, heart and lung function during pregnancy can increase vulnerability to flu-related complications.

Getting vaccinated during pregnancy is also the best way to protect your newborn. By getting the flu vaccine, you pass on the protective antibodies through the placenta which protects them in their first few months of life, when they are most vulnerable and too young to have the influenza vaccine.

You can also ask your family GP if you have questions about your pregnancy and recommended immunisations.

Myth: "I had the vaccine and still got the flu, so it doesn't work"

Fact: Severe flu viruses are circulating all the time, which is why people may still get the flu despite being vaccinated. However, being vaccinated can improve your chance of being protected from the flu. This is especially important to stop the virus affecting people with vulnerable immune systems.

Ask your GP about the benefits of getting a flu vaccine.

The flu (influenza) virus is most common between June and September in most parts of Australia. The virus is always changing so the flu vaccine changes too. To protect yourself during the peak flu season, a yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

Ask your GP about how you can protect yourself from the flu.
