The way out usually isn’t a big mindset shift first.

Especially when your emotions and self-talk and standards become unfair judging yourself by what you should do, not what you can do.

It’s small decisions that challenge the old story, actions that interrupt the pattern.

Start small. Prove you can trust yourself, especially on the days you don’t feel deserving of it.

Ask yourself, what’s one thing I can do right now?

Break the loop.

Pain is just information 🤔

Flare ups don’t always mean you’ve done more damage.

They happen when the load you’re doing is higher than the capacity you’ve built.

Pain tells you what’s sensitive today.

Exposure to load is what changes tissue tolerance over time.

The “right dose” is the most you can do while symptoms stay predictable.

If you’re rehabbing or trying to get back to training, aim for:

1. A baseline you can repeat and build on.
2. Small weekly progressions.
3. A clear green/amber/red rule so you’re not guessing if you should progress.

Consistency > Intensity ✌️

Stress is the signal. Recovery is the upgrade.

When we combine them well, we adapt. Stronger, faster, and more resilient. When we ignore either side, we pay for it. Stalled progress, recurring niggles, poor sleep, and eventually injuries.

If training has felt harder but results haven’t moved, don’t automatically add more.

Review the other half of the equation ✌️

Post-concussion syndrome.

Not always clear, not always linear, and for a lot of people, the hardest part is the unknown.

The challenges over the last few months have given me a new level of respect for how heavy this can feel especially when symptoms don’t make sense day to day.

What I’ve learned as a patient and a Physio…

Clarity reduces load. Understanding the unpredictability, what to expect and what the plan is can ease a huge amount of stress.

Recovery involves the right dose of activity, symptom monitoring, and progressive return, individualised to the person in front of you.

You can’t out work your brain. Honest symptom reporting matters, pushing through often prolongs the process.

Scope matters.

If it’s outside my lane (neuropsych, vestibular/vision complexity, persistent symptoms), I refer because the goal is to get the best outcome.

If you’re an athlete or physio navigating a concussion you’re not alone. My aim is to share what I’m learning, what the evidence says, and how we can create more certainty in a space that often feels uncertain.

If you want me to learn more (training modifications, symptom tracking, return to performance framework), comment “CONCUSSION”.

You don’t have to choose between progress and wellbeing.

Ambition is a strength, but it works best when it’s backed by a plan you can actually sustain. If you’re constantly running on empty, performance eventually pays the price.

Take care of the athlete and the human.

Youth Athletes. Start playing the long game! ⚽️

Meet Max, once upon a time the height of this box was a big milestone. Now post ankle sprain, he’a hitting the same height with ease.

That’s what youth athlete development should look like…
Steady progress, not rushed peaks.

At 14, Max is all in on football, currently with Essendon Royals and at this age, the biggest performance boost isn’t another session… it’s monitoring growth.

When growth rate spikes, tissues don’t always keep up with training loads. That’s where stress injuries tend to creep in, especially in young footballers.

Our focus:
- rebuild capacity after injury
- progress power and landing mechanics safely
- match training load to where his body is right now

Because the goal isn’t just to be good this weekend. it’s to stay available and keep improving for years.

If you’re a student, parent or young athlete navigating growth spurts + football load, message me “LONG GAME” and I’ll share with you what we track.
