Katova High School Project - Samasodu Village - Solomon Islands Mission project to Samasodu Village in the Solomon Islands - building the Katova High School - supported by Wamberal Christian Reformed Church

Wamberal CRC have been conducting projects in the Solomon Islands for over 15 years. Previous projects have involved building a medical clinic, 2 medical staff houses, toilets and sanitation blocks, water supply, children's programs, education programs, medical programs and much more. 300+ people have travelled to Samasodu village during 15 previous projects.

2026 Project Overview. It's Amazing!

Unfortunately the Solomon Airlines plane is still being repaired and has been replaced with a sub contracted Embraer jet which is much smaller. Numerous people were unable to board the flight from Honiara this morning. The end result is that 17 team members got on the flight and Rod P and Machi did not make the flight due to there being not enough seats. The plane departed and hour and a half late and has just landed in Brisbane. Hopefully everyone will be able to clear Customs and get over to the Domestic terminal to make their connecting flights. Rod and Machi will fly home tomorrow…..hopefully. Rod.

Unfortunately we have had a few delays and did not leave Samasodu until 5am. We will arrive in Honiara around 8pm local time. The boat trip will take 15+ hours but was relatively calm and uneventful. Team will head straight to the SWIM base ready to fly home tomorrow. Rod.

The MV Ortega departed Honiara at 2:30pm this afternoon and should arrive just after midnight at Samasodu to pick up the team. The sea is quite calm and we expect to be back in Honiara by midday. Rod.

Day 12: It’s all hands on deck at the building site as we work to complete the concreting. We also had final celebrations with our friends in the village. Tomorrow is our last working day and then we head back to Honiara. It’s raining here at the moment and a break in the weather would be appreciated. Rod.

Day 11: The Agricultural Learning Centre now has the full roofing completed and work continues pouring cement. Tomorrow ...

Day 11: The Agricultural Learning Centre now has the full roofing completed and work continues pouring cement. Tomorrow all the men in the village are coming to help as we have around 20 cubic metres to mix by hand. The girls sewing project concluded and each girl was presented with their personal hygiene pack. The clinic is now fully stocked and our medical team continue to work with the local nurses and assist the community. Rod.

Day 8: Today was Sunday and a day off work for the team. We had sunset drinks on the beach on Saturday evening and relaxed in the village on Sunday. A trip to a nearby beach and also a pig on the spit for dinner made the day pretty special. Looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow. Rod.

Day 6: The building team continued working on the Agricultural Learning Centre which is looking like an impressive structure. The girls sewing program commenced at Katova Secondary School with many excited participants. We even did an engine refit on one of our cement mixers where the broken diesel engine was replaced with an old petrol engine from a broken generator. Our 19 team members are well and doing great things with our Solomon friends. Rod.
