PCOS is often talked about as a hormone condition, but metabolic health can play an important role too.

For many people with PCOS, insulin resistance may contribute to weight changes, irregular cycles, and changes in ovulation.

Supporting metabolic health through personalised medical care, nutrition, movement, and evidence-informed treatment options may help improve PCOS management for some people.

At Alevia Medical Weight Loss, we take a personalised, doctor-led approach to weight and metabolic health, with care tailored to your individual needs.

Struggling to stay full between meals? 👀

The key to a satisfying snack isn't just what you eat—it's pairing protein with fibre or healthy fats to help keep hunger at bay and support steady energy levels.

🥣 Greek yoghurt & berries
🧀 Cheese stick & apple
🥕 Hummus & carrot sticks
🐟 Tuna & whole grain crackers
🥩 Beef jerky & nuts

These simple snack combinations can help you feel fuller for longer and make it easier to stay on track with your health goals.

PCOS, irregular periods, and weight can be more connected than many people realise.

For some people, insulin resistance can play a role in PCOS symptoms, menstrual cycle changes, fertility concerns, and weight. It is one of several factors that may influence hormones, ovulation, and metabolic health.

Lifestyle changes such as lower glycaemic index foods, adequate protein, and reducing refined carbohydrates may support weight management and metabolic health for some people with PCOS. In some cases, modest weight loss may also support menstrual regularity and ovulation, although individual results vary.

At Alevia, we do not offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Every patient receives an individualised medical assessment so we can better understand their health history, symptoms, goals, and whether a medically supported weight-management plan is appropriate. Where clinically appropriate, treatment options may include nutrition support, behavioural strategies, and medication prescribed at the discretion of the treating doctor.

If PCOS is affecting your quality of life or you have concerns about weight and reproductive health, you can speak with one of our doctors at Alevia Medical Weight Loss for individualised medical advice.

A common question for people living with PCOS is:
“Why do afternoon sugar cravings happen?”

The answer is not always about willpower. For some people, PCOS-related insulin resistance may influence blood glucose patterns, hunger signals and cravings throughout the day.

There are strategies that may help as part of an individualised plan, including protein-rich meals, lower-GI carbohydrate choices, and broader lifestyle and medical support where clinically appropriate.

Cravings are not something to feel guilty about. They may be one sign that your body is responding to underlying metabolic factors.

If PCOS, weight management or food cravings are affecting your day-to-day life, Alevia’s doctors can help you explore evidence-based options tailored to your needs.

Not all weight is the same — and that’s why our approach looks beyond the number on the scales.

At Alevia, body composition assessment can help provide additional information about muscle and fat distribution, supporting a more informed discussion about weight and health.

Two people can weigh the same but have different body composition and different health considerations. That’s why our GPs take a personalised, evidence-informed approach during consultations.

In this video, Dr Julie Chang explains what body composition assessment involves and how it may help guide a more nuanced conversation about weight and health.

If you have PCOS and find yourself reaching for something sweet in the afternoon, it is not simply a matter of willpower.

PCOS can be associated with insulin resistance and changes in appetite regulation, which may contribute to cravings for some people. Blood sugar fluctuations, meal composition, sleep, stress and other health factors can also play a role.

In our consultations, we look at the full picture. This may include your medical history, eating patterns, protein intake, carbohydrate quality, movement, sleep, mental health, and other factors that may be influencing your weight and appetite. Where clinically appropriate, and after assessment by a doctor, treatment options may also be discussed as part of a broader medical weight management plan.

Every recommendation starts with understanding you — your history, your health conditions and your goals.

If afternoon cravings are making your day harder, you can speak with one of our doctors about what may be contributing and what support may be appropriate for you.

If you’ve been told to “just eat less and move more” while living with PCOS, this one’s for you.

PCOS is not only a reproductive condition. For many people, it can also involve metabolic and hormonal factors that influence weight management.

Insulin resistance, androgen levels, appetite changes, fatigue and cycle-related symptoms can all play a role — which is why weight management with PCOS can feel more complex than simple advice suggests.

At Alevia Medical Weight Loss, our doctors provide personalised, evidence-informed weight management care that takes your health history, symptoms and goals into account. You won’t be judged or shamed — you’ll be supported to understand what options may be appropriate for you.

What actually happens at your first appointment at Alevia?

I get asked this a lot — and it’s one of my favourite questions to answer, because the first consultation is where everything begins.

We’re not here to hand you a meal plan and send you on your way. We’re here to understand you — your weight history, what you’ve tried before, what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what you’re hoping to achieve.

At your first visit, we’ll look at health conditions that may be contributing to your weight, review medications that could be working against you, and check in on your mental health and wellbeing. We may also do a body composition analysis to help track changes over time.

From there, we build a plan together — which may include medical, dietary, behavioural and lifestyle support, depending on your individual needs and clinical assessment.

Not a quick fix. A genuine partnership, with the right people in your corner.

Your first step is simply a conversation.

If you've been told to “just eat less and move more” but you're living with PCOS, you may already know weight management can feel more complex than that.

PCOS can affect hormones involved in insulin regulation, appetite and body composition, which may make weight management more challenging for some people. It is not simply a matter of willpower — biology, lifestyle, medical history and individual circumstances can all play a role.

At Alevia Medical Weight Loss, our doctors understand that weight management with PCOS can be genuinely difficult. That means when you walk through our doors, you will not be judged or made to feel like you have not tried hard enough.

What you will get is evidence-informed, individualised care from a team that takes your health seriously. No one-size-fits-all approaches. No quick fixes. Just personalised, medically guided support that considers your condition, your goals and your individual biology.

If PCOS has made your weight journey feel like an uphill battle, it may be time to have a proper conversation with a doctor.
