🚨 SEPSIS AWARENESS WEEK | KNOW THE SIGNS. ACT FAST. 🚨
This week is Sepsis Awareness Week, an important opportunity to raise awareness of a condition where recognising the warning signs early can save a life.
Sepsis is a medical emergency.
It occurs when the body has an extreme response to an infection, causing organ dysfunction. It can develop rapidly and can affect anyone, although older people, very young children and people with weakened immune systems or chronic health conditions can be particularly vulnerable.
⚠️ Signs that may indicate sepsis include:
• Fever, shivering or feeling extremely cold
• Rapid breathing or shortness of breath
• Fast heart rate
• New confusion, drowsiness or difficulty waking
• Severe pain or feeling extremely unwell
• Pale, mottled or discoloured skin
• Reduced urine output
• A sudden or significant deterioration in someone’s condition
One of the most important things we can do is trust our instincts.
If someone has an infection and suddenly becomes significantly more unwell, don’t simply assume they’ll improve overnight.
Ask the question: “Could this be sepsis?”
Early recognition and urgent medical treatment can make an enormous difference.
As healthcare and support professionals, we all have a role to play in recognising deterioration, escalating concerns and speaking up when something just isn’t right.
❤️ Know the signs. Trust your gut. Speak up. Act quickly.
Because when it comes to sepsis, every minute matters.
