When Australians think about the disability sector, they often think about support workers, allied health professionals, hospitals, aged care providers and the NDIS.

They don’t wear uniforms.

They don’t clock on and off.

Most are never paid for the work they do.

If you know someone struggling with the supports they receive, and/or a fearful of upcoming changes to the NDIS, this article offers some tips on self-advocacy. Speaking with their local senators before legislation is passed just may be more impactful than speaking after it become law.

Every major change to the NDIS starts with a conversation in Parliament. Unfortunately, many Australians living with disability, their families, carers and support workers don't realise how much influence their personal stories can have on that process.

We wrote an article a little while ago about Assistive Technology.

When people hear the term Assistive Technology, they often think about wheelchairs or mobility aids. But Assistive Technology is much more than equipment.

It's about freedom.

It's about participation.

And most importantly, it's about giving people with disability the tools they need to live life on their own terms.

On Monday 27 July at 2pm (AEST), AusAlert - Australia's new national emergency warning system will send a test alert to every mobile phone in the country.

For people experiencing family and domestic violence who keep a hidden phone for safety, the alert could reveal that device. The alert will sound even if a phone is set to silent or Do Not Disturb.
