Today is an incredibly difficult day for Whyalla. 💙
For generations, the Steelworks has been more than just a workplace. It has been part of the foundation of our city, part of our identity, and part of the story of countless Whyalla families.
Today’s announcement regarding the Blast Furnace brings with it an enormous amount of uncertainty.
Right now, there are families sitting around dinner tables wondering what comes next. There are workers who have dedicated years, and in many cases decades, of their lives to our Steelworks. There are local businesses wondering what this will mean for them, and an entire community trying to process what this next chapter may look like.
We don’t know exactly what the future holds for the Steelworks or for Whyalla, and today probably isn’t the day to try to predict it.
Today is a day to think about the people behind the headlines.
The workers. Their partners. Their children. The contractors. The small businesses. The families whose lives have been intertwined with the Steelworks for generations.
Whyalla has weathered uncertainty before, and what has always stood out is the way our community backs one another when things get hard.
As a locally owned and operated business, this is our home too. We live here, we work here, we raise our families here, and we care deeply about what happens to the people around us.
In the days and months ahead, supporting local and looking out for one another will matter more than ever.
