You may have heard the news that has come out in the past 24 hours. As independent practitioners it saddens us to see fellow optometrists in corporate settings treated in such a way. The focus for any optometrist should always be on treating a patient, not pushing sales on a customer.

Every optometrist regardless of where they work deserves the time and support needed to focus on eyecare. Rushing consults and pushing sales is not where optometry should be heading.

As an independent local practice, we are grateful that this is not our reality. Our patients come first, our consults are long and thorough, and you would never get a whiff of reprimands or pay cuts because, we would never push something that you simply do not need.

We can only hope for our fellow optometrists that this discussion will lead to positive change across the country allowing optometrists to go back to what matters, eye care. Optometry is a medical practice not a retail store.

This weekend Michael and Jaime had the pleasure of attending the Australian College of Behavioural Optometry's annual conference. Where Michael spoke as a lecturer and we had a booth promoting our new vision therapy program! WOW! not just a word associated with shock and awe, But also the Acronym for Wear Orange Wednesday! A national day of thanks to the thousands of SES volunteers who serve their communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week through storms, floods, rescues, and so much more. Amongst the thousands of SES volunteers across the state is our very own Vision Therapist Vicky! Today we thank her and every other volunteer for their hard work and dedication to our community.

With over 4 year's experience and carrying Cart IV in Optical Dispensing she is very passionate about ensuring the lens design and frame choice match the wearer.
