Psoriasis occurs due to immune system dysregulation in genetically predisposed individuals, resulting in inflammation and increased skin cell production.

While the exact cause is not fully understood, psoriasis is not contagious.

Common triggers that may worsen or activate symptoms include:

• Infections, particularly streptococcal infections
• Skin injury or trauma (including cuts, burns or scratches)
• Cold, dry weather conditions
• Smoking and alcohol consumption
• Certain medications
• Psychological stress

Identifying and managing triggers can be an important part of long-term control.

OptimaScan is a digital skin imaging system used to support clinical skin assessment.

During your appointment, high-resolution images are taken to document the skin, including any lesions or areas of concern. These images assist with monitoring changes over time and may support the identification of lesions that require further review.

All findings are reviewed by a doctor, who will determine whether any follow-up or further management is appropriate.

To book an OptimaScan skin check, please contact our clinic or book via HotDoc.

Our patient presented with vascular (red) scarring following a Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) skin infection to the forehead region.

Medical intervention initially used to address the active virus. Following this, the utilisation of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) was used in treatment to resolve inflammatory scarring.

Please contact our clinic if you have any questions regarding the treatments we offer at Advantage Skin Clinic: (02)42010593.

Our doctor-led skin checks help identify suspicious moles or lesions at an early stage, reducing the risk of skin cancer and unnecessary procedures.

During your check, a trained professional will guide you through the process at a comfortable pace, assess your skin thoroughly, and take a closer look at any areas of concern.

Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when detected early. Regular self-exams can help you spot changes in moles or spots - look for irregular borders or changes in shape, size, or colour.

Book your skin check online via HotDoc or contact us on (02)42010593.

Psoriasis can present in several clinical forms. The most common types include:

• Plaque psoriasis: raised, scaly plaques on the skin
• Guttate psoriasis: small, drop-like lesions often following infection
• Inverse psoriasis: smooth, inflamed patches in skin folds
• Pustular psoriasis: white pustules on an inflamed base
• Erythrodermic psoriasis: a rare, severe form affecting large areas of the body
• Nail psoriasis: changes such as pitting, thickening or separation of the nail plate

Each type can vary in severity and presentation, and accurate diagnosis is important in guiding appropriate management.

CO₂ laser technology may be used to remove selected skin tags.

Using controlled laser energy, this treatment targets the lesion while minimising impact on the surrounding skin.

A consultation with one of our doctors is required prior to treatment to assess your skin, determine suitability, discuss potential risks and benefits, and provide post-treatment care instructions. Downtime will vary depending on the size, location and number of lesions treated.

To book your consultation, please contact our team on (02) 4201 0593.

All you need to know about pigmented BCC’s.

A pigmented basal cell carcinoma is a rare type of BCC which causes hyperpigmentation. An area of your skin becomes darker than the skin surrounding it (please see photo on the right).

Pigmented basal cell carcinomas typically appear with brown or black shaded regions within the lesion.

People who have a BCC once are at higher risk for developing another nonmelanoma skin cancer in the future, however BCC’s do not progress into melanomas.
Each is a separate and distinct type of skin cancer.

If you have any lesions you’re worried about please contact our clinic to book in for a skin check.
