Our Jimbelunga Nursing Centre is being featured across the country in a segment by Aboriginal Health TV about community-led organisations delivering for mob.

With the 2026 Census taking place tomorrow (11 August), the segment looks at how population data can be used to back important community-led projects and organisations.

Today, we're shining a light on Aunty Dorothy Buhmann, a respected Elder, and a much loved member of the ATSICHS Brisbane community.

Aunty Dorothy is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman from Badu Island who dedicated over 25 years of her life to serving her community through ATSICHS Brisbane.
She began her journey with the organisation in 1993, making a daily commute from Nambour to Brisbane to work at our Hubert Street clinic as a health worker. Throughout her career, Aunty Dorothy worked in every one of our clinics, where she worked in every role from transport driver, receptionist, registered nurse and cleaner.
No job was beneath Aunty Dorothy; she was always willing to do whatever she could to support her mob.

Thank you, Aunty Dorothy, for your years of dedication, kindness and commitment to community. Your hard work will always be remembered and valued.

Have you heard about the new system of care at our Woolloongabba Clinic? It's called the pod model and was introduced early last year.

This care model means that each client has a dedicated team of health providers (a pod) around them, which stays the same for every visit, creating a deeper and clearer understanding of journeys and goals 🌞

Happy National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day! πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ€
Today we celebrate our jarjums and young people, the heart of our families, communities and future.

May they always feel strong in culture, proud of their identity and confident in the path they walk. Our stories live on through them, and our future is brighter because of them. ✨
