PCOS has officially been renamed PMOS and the change reflects something many women have known for a long time:
This condition is about far more than ovaries alone.
The new term, Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), acknowledges the broader hormonal, metabolic and long-term health impacts that can come with this condition including insulin resistance, fertility challenges, mental health impacts, irregular periods, fatigue and more.
For many women, the old name felt confusing or minimising. Especially when ovarian cysts weren’t even part of their experience.
Experts hope this change will improve awareness, diagnosis and holistic care for the millions of women affected 🤍
At Elladee, we’re passionate about helping women better understand their hormones, cycles and health with evidence-based education and compassionate support.
