1. Toothpaste contains fluoride, fluoride protects teeth from the bacteria in plaque (tartar) that can lead to tooth decay and gingivitis (gum disease), but using a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is generally recommended to minimize the risk of negative effects of fluoride, so that you must wait at least half an hour after brushing your teeth to drink water or consume beverages.
2. You must NOT brush your teeth in one direction, especially in a horizontal way on the dental pulp because it may cause tooth loss.
3. Do NOT brush your teeth after eating right away, especially if you have eaten acidic foods that can weaken your teeth enamel that protects your teeth. Wait for 30-60 minutes before toothbrushing.
4. Toothbrushing must NOT be shorter or longer than two minutes.
5. You must change your toothbrush every 3 months. The longer you use a certain toothbrush, the more bacteria will take over the brush.
6. You must also brush your tongue and lips gently too. Cleaning your tongue once or twice a day may help you reduce bad breath and the risk of cavities as well as contribute to a clean-mouth feeling. It is also good to brush your lips gently once a week to get rid of dry skin and give your lips a smoother appearance.
7. Brushing your teeth twice a day is ideal but if you can brush your teeth every meal, breakfast, lunch, and dinner you minimize the bacteria in your mouth.
8. Parents must supervise their children (6 months- 7 years old) to brush their teeth correctly.
