• Fluoride toothpaste

Do not stop brushing because your gums are bleeding — this does not solve the problem; rather, it can make gum disease worse!
Misconception: If your gums bleed, you should stop brushing your teeth.
Many people from today’s busy generation become scared when they see their gums bleeding while brushing and stop brushing for a few days. Some also think that the bleeding is caused by the friction of the toothbrush. However, in most cases, repeated gum bleeding is an important sign of gum inflammation or Gingivitis. One of the main causes is bacterial plaque buildup around the teeth.
What happens if you stop brushing?
When you stop brushing, more plaque continues to accumulate. Over time, plaque can harden and form tartar or calculus, which cannot be completely removed by regular brushing. Gum inflammation may then worsen, and if left untreated, it can progress to a serious gum disease such as Periodontitis. This can lead to gum recession, loose teeth, and ultimately an increased risk of tooth loss.
So, what should you do if your gums bleed?
• Do not stop brushing completely. Instead, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gently brush your teeth twice a day for about 2 minutes each time.
• Use fluoride toothpaste and clean the area where the teeth and gums meet properly.
• Use floss or an appropriate interdental brush every day to remove plaque between the teeth.
• Do not brush too hard or use a hard-bristled toothbrush — this can damage the gums.
• Avoid smoking and to***co products, as they can harm gum health.
• Have regular dental checkups, and if tartar has accumulated, have it professionally cleaned.
When should you be concerned?
If your gums bleed regularly, do not improve even after several weeks, or if you have symptoms such as swollen gums, pain, bad breath, pus, loose teeth, or receding gums, consult a dentist without delay. Excessive or prolonged bleeding may also have other causes.
Do not stop brushing when you see blood; instead, it is important to find out the cause. Regular and proper plaque removal is one of the key ways to prevent gum disease and maintain healthy gums.
