There was a moment when intuition wasn’t enough anymore.

In my first travel years, my life was guided almost entirely by
intuition.
Timing.
Curiosity.

I could leave when it felt right.
Stay when something asked me to stay.

I loved that life.
It was comfortable, alive, adventurous.

Until deep down, something else was calling.
It was time to expand again.
To grow.
There was no big challenge left.

The adult stage of travel was calling.
I wanted to engage differently.
To bridge my former working life
with the freedom-travel version of me.
To build something that could move with me.

Slowly, clients appeared.
Sessions.
Time zones.
Internet that had to work.
An agenda that mattered.

Freedom didn’t disappear.
But it changed shape.

I could no longer vanish into places without signal.
Or follow a hunch for weeks without checking my email.
People were waiting.

It asked something else of me.
Presence.
Reliability.
Continuity.

At times, that felt like a loss.
Less spontaneity.
Less outer freedom.

However,
I learned that freedom isn’t only about movement.
Or disappearing when I want to.
Or changing my mind whenever I feel like it.

Freedom is not the opposite of commitment.

It’s also about choosing
what — and who — you show up for.
It’s also about choosing how you want to feel
after making a choice.

My journey didn’t end.
It only shifted.

It became less about me.
More relational.
And, somehow, as meaningful.

This is also what reshaped how I hold space for others now.

There was a time in these ten years
when my father travelled with me.

Suddenly, I was many things at once.
A child.
A teenager.
An adult.

The translator.
The mediator.
The caregiver.

We shared experiences that don’t normally exist
between a father and a daughter.

Backpacking.
Uncertainty.
Long roads in the middle of nowhere
-often uncomfortable.

There were moments of harmony, of quiet, shared silence.
And moments of friction,
years of unspoken emotions surfacing without warning.

He saw me inside a life that doesn’t fit into one country or one rhythm.
And I saw him outside the role I had known for most of my life.
He wasn’t fully there back then.

Now we were — awkwardly, carefully — trying to stay open with each other.

It felt rare.
Vulnerable.
Breakable.

These moments will never happen again in quite the same way.

I didn’t realize it then.
We were both trying to bridge the years.

Sometimes it takes me a while to know where I want to go next.
Sometimes I don’t decide until I’m almost packing my bags.

Part of me wants to return to places like Colombia, Mexico, Honduras, Europe...

Because of the communities I’ve built there.
Because I genuinely love those places.
Because they’ve started to feel like home.

Another part of me still longs to discover somewhere new.

I love the adventure.
The unexpected.
The feeling of not knowing what’s around the next corner.

But after years of living out of my backpack, I also notice something shifting.

I want to move more slowly.
To experience places more deeply.
To stay somewhere long enough to truly belong.

What a privilege it is to feel at home in different places.
To carry pieces of home in different communities.
To know that the world is still open to explore.

And yet...

It’s easy to get pulled in different directions by different parts of ourselves.

The part that longs for belonging.
The part that craves adventure.
The part that seeks stability.

The joy of what’s here now...
and the dreams that keep pulling us towards what’s next.

Whether you’re a nomad, an expat, or someone who’s lived in the same place for years, it can be powerful to pause and ask yourself:

🌍 Why did I choose this lifestyle in the first place?

💫 Which part of me does it fulfil?

✨ And how does it connect with the life I’m trying to build?

The answers might show you it’s time to keep exploring...
to put down roots...
or simply to move through life at a different pace.

I’d love to hear what resonates with you.

𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂𝒃𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒏𝒐 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆.

Last month, I went to a Toastmasters meeting in Spanish.

At one point, I was invited to participate in a Table Topic:
you get a random question and have to speak for two minutes.

No preparation.
No notes.
No time to think.
30 strangers in the room.

As I walked to the front, a few scenarios crossed my mind.

I might completely blank.
I might not find my words.
I might make mistakes in Spanish.

All of these scenarios were quite possible.

It was my first time.
In a different language.
In front of people I had never met.

I decided to accept the possibility that all of this could happen.

If I blanked, I blanked.
If I made mistakes, I made mistakes.
If it got awkward, it got awkward.

Then I started speaking.

My stage fright still there in the background.
The scenarios still present,
but they weren’t running the show.
I was just giving a two-minute speech on the spot.
I even enjoyed it!

Afterwards, I felt liberated. Energized.
It wasn’t perfect, it was more than good enough.

More important: I had shown up, even with these voices in my head.

It’s something I often see when working with the inner critic.

We spend so much energy trying to get rid of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.
Yet often the shift happens when we stop resisting them.
They don’t magically disappear.
But they no longer get to decide what we do.

I almost fell on a dance floor recently.

I was fine.
Nobody got hurt.
Nothing serious happened.

And yet I felt embarrassed for hours.
The person I was dancing with couldn’t understand it.

To him, it was just a human moment.
To me, it became a story.

A story about myself.
A story about looking foolish.
A story about getting something wrong.

That’s the thing about the inner critic.
Often the painful part isn’t what happened.

There are testimonials that make me smile.
And then there are testimonials that stay with me.
This was one of them.

“𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫.”

Not everything in this person’s life suddenly changed.
But the relationship with herself started to change.

As therapists we often hope for big breakthroughs.
Yet it’s these simple words that mean the most to me.

Lighter.
Freer.

Sometimes that’s exactly how you notice a first shift.

One thing I catch myself doing sometimes...

I wasn’t comparing my life with someone else’s.
I am comparing one tiny part of my life.
I look at people with a house.
People with children.
People with stability.

And for a moment I forgot everything I do have.

The freedom.
The adventures.
The people I meet.
The countries I’ve lived in.

It’s funny how the inner critic zooms in on what’s missing and crops out everything else.

I see this with clients all the time too.

When I started working with the inner critic,
I was struck by how protective it was trying to be.

Many of us think the critic is trying to make us feel bad.
More often, it’s trying to stop us from feeling rejected.
Embarrassed.
Not good enough.
Or hurt again.

That doesn’t mean we have to keep listening to it.
But understanding why it’s there changes everything.

That’s one of the dynamics we’ll explore together on July 19.

When I first invited Maria to draw,
she immediately said,
“𝐈’𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞.”

I hear that surprisingly often.
As if creativity belongs to artists.
Or writers.
Or dancers.

By the end of the session,
she had forgotten that she labelled herself as not creative.

What mattered was that something she had been carrying inside suddenly became visible.

Not because she found the right words.
But because she gave it a shape,
Because she could start relating to it in a different way.

That’s why I still love working with movement, creativity and experiential exercises after all these years.

It’s not for the beautiful art.
Creative expression just helps us understand ourselves in ways that talking alone doesn’t always allow.

A friend makes a mistake?
We understand.

A colleague struggles?
We empathize.

We make a mistake?
The replay begins.

The criticism.
The overthinking.
The “I should have known better.”

Many of us are far more compassionate toward others than toward ourselves.

What if the goal isn’t to silence that voice, but to understand it?

That’s one of the questions we’ll explore in this workshop.
