Beyond the technology, digital health is about trust.

That has been one of the key learnings for our team at this past month.

As part of our ongoing journey through the UNICEF programme, we participated in a product development and user design learning session that challenged us to think critically about how we design healthcare experiences.

Because people use products they trust.

Trust that is built through every interaction, every design decision, and every experience a user has with our solution.

We reflected on questions that continue to shape our work at Dotoh:
● are we designing with communities and the young people we serve?
● are we solving with respect to user needs?
● how do we ensure every user interaction feels safe, transparent, and trustworthy?

As we expand access to confidential, equitable sexual and reproductive health, maternal, and primary care for underserved communities in Benin, we remain committed to listening, learning, testing, and continuously improving alongside the communities we serve.

We are grateful to UNICEFinnovation and the incredible mentors whose insights and support continue to strengthen our thinking as we enhance our digital health platform.

📍 DOTOH at the Africa Digital Health Summit in Abuja 🇳🇬

We are proud to share that DOTOH Health presented its abstract, “From pilot to scale: lessons from the locally designed, low-bandwidth Dotoh primary care and reproductive health digital health platform in Benin”. Led by Ofure Ojeaga, our presentation explored one of the biggest challenges in African digital health: why so many pilots fail to scale.

Through research, co-design, and continuous community engagement in Benin, DOTOH has developed a telehealth model that responds directly to limited connectivity, language diversity, healthcare stigma, and persistent gaps in reproductive, maternal, and primary healthcare access.

As we continue scaling, we are integrating AI support systems to strengthen 24/7 access to care alongside our existing digital ecosystem, providing appointment booking, voice/video consultations, multilingual health education, digital health records, and geolocalisation.

We are grateful to connect with funders, fellow innovators, and policymakers, including Africa CDC, World Bank Group, Gates Foundation, VillageReach, Clinton Health Access Initiative, eHealth Africa, MobiHealth, Artificial Intelligence for Social Impact & Development, Amref Health Africa, HealthCare Federation of Nigeria, MTN Nigeria, Health Plus Limited.

💙 Appreciation to the team for creating a platform for dialogue and action.

Scaling telehealth is about more than technology. It is about trust, policy, people, and building systems that work where they are needed most.

DOTOH Health is proud to have contributed to the newly released policy brief, “From Pilots to Scale: Practical Pathways for Telehealth in Africa,” following our participation in the Telehealth Solution Lab convened by the Global Telehealth Community of Practice at the 2025 .

The brief highlights what is needed to scale telehealth sustainably, from stronger policy and financing models, to interoperability, equitable access, and workforce integration.

It outlines five pathways to accelerate progress:
1️⃣ Policy and Regulation
2️⃣ Financing and Sustainability
3️⃣ Interoperability and Data Use
4️⃣ User Adoption and Equity
5️⃣ Service Delivery and Workforce

We are grateful to have shared our experiences alongside policymakers, researchers, implementers, funders, and digital health leaders across the continent.

Special appreciation to partners who convened and shaped this work, VillageReach, SCIDaR - Solina Centre for International Development and Research, Geneva Digital Health Hub (gdhub), International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth, Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH), and to all the partners and contributors for creating a space for grounded, practical solutions.

The future of telehealth is strongest when it is co-created.

At DOTOH Health, we built our digital health and teleconsultation platform with women and girls in Benin, making healthcare more equitable, accessible, and affordable.

Their voices and lived experiences shaped Dotoh into a trusted platform expanding timely and confidential access to sexual, reproductive, maternal, and primary healthcare for underserved communities in Benin.

Being part of the first UNICEF cohort is a reminder that women’s health challenges are interconnected across Africa and Asia, and so is our shared responsibility to build solutions that truly respond to women's needs.

💙 We are grateful to UNICEFinnovation for creating this space and for the opportunity to build alongside founders who understand why this work matters.

We’re excited to share that DOTOH Health will be presenting at the 6th Africa Digital Health Summit in Abuja, with its abstract “From pilot to scale: lessons from the locally designed Dotoh primary care and reproductive health digital health platform in Benin” this June.

At Dotoh, we are scaling Benin’s first platform to make reproductive, maternal, and primary healthcare more accessible for women, adolescents, and underserved communities, especially where distance, cost, stigma, and poor connectivity impede access to care.

This presentation is an opportunity to share what we are learning, what it means to build digital health solutions locally, design for low-resource settings, and move from early pilot to scale.

We look forward to connecting with digital health leaders, policymakers, innovators, and partners shaping the future of healthcare in Africa.

📍 From Benin to Pretoria

DOTOH took part in the 1-week UNICEF FemTech Ventures workshop in South Africa alongside innovators building solutions for women and girls across Africa and Asia.

During the week, we shared our vision for making healthcare more accessible, confidential, and easier to reach through AI enabled teleconsultation services, designed for real everyday realities.

We also joined important conversations about trust, safety, women centered design, and what it takes to build health solutions that truly work for communities.

Most importantly, we carried the stories of the women and girls we serve with us.
✔️ For the young girl seeking healthcare answers privately.
✔️ For the mother delaying care because of distance or cost.
✔️ For every woman who deserves healthcare with dignity.

Thank you to UNICEFinnovation, the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria, mentors, partners, and everyone supporting this journey 💙
