Hello yogis, it’s been far too long since I checked in. It’s Solstice weekend! For my spiritual/witchy/curious ones this share is a simple ritual to cross through the brightest days of the year.
Watch your inbox for a note from me soon. Welcome the sunshine ☀️✨
Litha is the peak. The sun is at full power, the light has nowhere left to climb, and... neither do you, right? If you've been doing the work since Yule?
Okay, this is the ritual I do at Midsummer. It's not complicated to be honest. But! It's not casual either. So do it with intention or don't do it at all.
𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅:
A yellow or gold candle. A fire-safe dish. A piece of paper. Something that represents what you're burning away (an old habit, a fear, a version of yourself you're done carrying). A second piece of paper for what you're calling in. Sunflowers, St. John's Wort, or marigolds if you can get them. Honey. A cup of something you actually enjoy drinking.
𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌:
Do this at noon if you can (I mean solar noon, not clock noon). If not, as close to midday as possible, or at sunrise.
Go outside. If you can't, open a window and face the sun.
Stand for a moment with your face toward the light. Just there, receiving. Let the sun light hit you.
Then, write on the first paper what you're releasing. Be specific. "Fear" is not specific. Here are some examples: The job I've been too scared to leave. The relationship I keep excusing. The thing I don't finish because finishing means it can be judged.
Burn it in the dish.
Watch it go completely.
On the second paper, write what you're stepping into. Present tense. Not "I want", you know that. Use: I am. I have. I do.
Fold it toward you three times.
Keep it somewhere it'll see light.
Then, rejoice! Offer the flowers and honey outside... at your threshold, at the base of a tree, somewhere that feels like it belongs to more than just you.
Pour a drink. Toast the sun out loud. Say what you're grateful for. Mean it.
Come back inside.
That's it!
No circle, no hour-long invocation. Just you, the light, and the turn of the year.
𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 21𝒔𝒕: candle, honey, flowers, two pieces of paper. You probably have everything else already.
