In Sanskrit, duhkha translates to “pain”, “suffering”, “unhappiness”, “unsatisfactory”, and “stressed”.
Interesting the word has such a diverse use, all to point to the fact that it’s a state that we don’t want to be in.
What I see over and over again is that in dealing with our pain and suffering, we tend to look into the external world to find our fixes. We turn to food, exercise, medication and treatments. All may help… to a point.
But when it doesn’t, we need to look beyond the physical. We need to look at all the domains of life in order to address what is causing our ‘dis-ease’.
Unless we start to turn inward, the remedy for duhkha will elude us.
