Last fall I sent a dear friend money to reserve a date for an updated “business photoshoot”. I then did what any sane person would do and I delayed… until the snow, until a warmer snow, until my 40th birthday, until the spring, and then I tried once more for “until my gardens are in full bloom”. Knowing I wasn’t fooling anyone at that point, I moved ahead with distress levels of about 5/10 on the EMDR SUDS scale (if you know, you know).
Between and my four tiny colleagues, there was little pressure to perform, and we were all able to stay true to our personalities. Amanda radiated kindness, love and joy, Mia observed from a distance, Iggy remained stoic, Annie avoided eye contact, and Spike stole the show, never missing an opportunity to be the center of attention or strike a pose. As always, I was a poor alpha wandering my gardens with dirt under my finger nails and rolling around in the grass like I have four legs.
Despite the lack of blooms and a different vibe than previous photos, these are far truer to “what you see is what you get”, and that’s what I was going for. They also serve as a timestamp for this beautiful phase of my life; one that I could not be more grateful to be living.
May my older photos now be removed from the dictionary, which can currently be found under the definition of catfishing.
