Sometimes working on and healing your relationship with food results in weight loss. There's nothing wrong with that. And sometimes it looks like gaining wight or accepting your body where it's at. If this is the case, it's easy to worry that we're letting ourselves go or losing control. But what does it actually mean in the context of the good work you're doing?

If your summer calendar looks anything like mine, there are BBQ's, a wedding (or seven if you're somewhere between 19-25 years old 😉), holiday time, and beach days. And food will show up every time. It's part of the fun and experience, but not ALL of it. Don't let food steal your presence by showing up after a day of restricting.

In this ever-changing world of GLP-1's, ChatGPT and other interventions for weight loss, there are so many ideas and voices clamoring for attention. The goal is to develop a healthy relationship with food and your body, possibly heal a damaged relationship with food, exercise and body image. The jury is out on how some of these alternate means can help or potentially harm. One thing we know for sure is that developing a healthy relationship with food and your body is effectively done through working with trusted professionals who have years of experience in this field. Even if you lose weight through some of these means, if you still hate your body or are obsessed with what you eat, you will not truly walk in freedom. Consider the benefits of working with a therapeutic team to heal your relationship with food, movement and body. Kris Isaac, our Registered Dietitian, alongside of Beth Murray and Caroline Ciano are Eating Disorder Specialists. We can help you on this journey.

Hunger changes from day-to-day. And not always in ways that you can predict or peg down. You don't need to control hunger or outreason your hunger. You need to respond to it. Eat the snack :)

We can say 'yes' in a million little ways.

What is one small way God might be asking you to be faithful when it comes to food and caring for your body?

There are alot of What I Ate Wednesday posts out there, but when we're sharing amounts of food and time of eating, it's amazing how much comparison can spring up. So welcome to Why I Ate Wednesday :)

I love to talk about our "whys" and to see that there are so many reasons why we eat.
• Yes, to nourish our bodies.
• Yes, in response to hunger.

The goal is that these will guide you're eating. But there are more reasons and they're not bad reasons. We eat:
• As a means of connection
• To model "normal" eating to our kids around the supper table
• In response to appetite (it looks good)
• For satisfaction (e.g. chocolate after a meal)
• To fuel for exercise or refuel after
• For practical reasons, e.g. knowing it will be a while before you can eat again, you might eat when you're not yet really hungry

And if you're recovering from an €D or d!sordered eating, the list is even longer. You might eat to:
• Meet your meal plan because you know it's what you need for recovery
• To "disagree with and disobey" your €D
• To bring structure to your eating
• To reconnect with and stimulate hunger and fullness signals
• To challenge a food fear

Why can be just as important as what 💜

And there are hundreds more. What would you add? 🌷 •••••
