Meet our Vice President, Linda Wonitoway-Raw.

Linda has spent over 15 years building experience in primary care, women’s health, and mental health and addictions across Alberta. She currently practices in downtown Edmonton, teaches in the University of Alberta’s Master of Nursing NP program, and advocates with policymakers to advance NP practice across the province.

We are proud to have her leading alongside us as Vice President.

This is what expanding primary care in Alberta looks like.

Mary Obstfeld has been a Nurse Practitioner in the Cold Lake area since 2016 and is now working to open the Ardmore Family Primary Care Clinic, bringing much needed primary care to a community that has long struggled to access consistent care.

Mary is also currently helping Cold Lake First Nations transform its health centre into a primary care clinic. Her commitment to rural and underserved communities is something we are incredibly proud to see from an Alberta NP.

Stories like Mary's are exactly why the NPAA advocates for NPs to practice to their full scope across the province. We cannot wait to see what Mary builds in Ardmore.

Boots, breakfast, and advancing NP practice across Alberta. That is what Stampede season looks like for the NPAA.

This July, our team had the opportunity to connect with some of Alberta's most influential leaders at a number of Stampede events. We are so grateful for every conversation and every opportunity to bring the NP voice to the table.

During Stampede, we had the pleasure of connecting with Premier Danielle Smith, Minister Justin Wright, Minister Myles McDougall, and Naheed Nenshi, Leader of the Alberta NDP, alongside a number of Alberta MLAs.

A huge thank you to President Lucie Lapierre, Executive Director Harj Baumann, Board Members Sara Lee, and Nouman Ali for representing the NPAA throughout the season.

We tip our hats to everyone working to build a stronger healthcare system for Albertans.

Meet our Director of Primary Care, Trudy Matwiy.

Trudy has over 20 years of nursing experience and more than 11 years as a Nurse Practitioner across urban and rural Alberta.

She has taught in the University of Calgary NP program, collaborated on research with AHS and the pharmaceutical industry, and built a career that spans almost every corner of the primary care system.

As Director of Primary Care, Trudy is focused on equitable funding models, transparent billing structures, and making sure primary care NPs are represented at every table that matters.

She believes the current primary care program is a strong foundation, and she is committed to building on it.

Jessica has been an NP in acute care for over 10 years with experience spanning Cardiology, Neurology, and now the ICU in Calgary.

She holds an academic appointment with the University of Calgary, leads a diverse research program, and is a Charter Fellow with the Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada.

As Director of Acute Care, Jessica is focused on advancing education and specialization opportunities for NPs in acute care and building programs that support recruitment and retention across the province.
