One of the most rewarding parts of practicing Oral Immunotherapy is hearing how treatment changes a family's everyday life.

I recently received an email from the family of one of our patients. Their child is 11 years old and is currently on maintenance therapy for peanut, taking two peanuts every day.

They shared with me that, because of OIT, they've been able to do things that once felt impossible and anxiety provoking. Their child has enjoyed treats from Dairy Queen and Tim Hortons without the fear of cross contamination. They also attended a birthday party and ate the same ice cream cake as every other kid at the party.

The family wrote, "These seem like small things, but they are huge for us."

That sentence perfectly captures why quality of life matters.

For a child, being able to participate in everyday experiences with friends isn't a small victory. It's about inclusion, confidence, independence, and reducing the constant anxiety that can come with living with a food allergy. These moments have a meaningful impact on a child's social and emotional development, and on the well being of the entire family.

Stories like this remind our team why we do this work every day.
