Let’s have a little chat in the caption about acne in your 20’s vs. in your 30’s 👇🏼
Adult acne usually isn’t as simple as: “you need better skincare.”
A lot of the time, your skin is reacting to what’s happening internally just as much as what you’re putting on it.
Stress, cortisol spikes, cycle changes, lack of sleep, inflammation, and constantly switching out products 👉🏼 this is all contributing to how your skin is behaving on the surface.
And adult breakouts don’t always behave like 24 year old acne, either.
Acne when you’re younger is often more oil-driven, whereas adult acne tends to be more inflammatory, hormonal, and barrier-related.
That’s why so many people end up stuck in this cycle of: breaking out → drying the skin out → damaging the barrier → breaking out even more.
One thing I see constantly is people overdoing it with actives: too many acids, too much exfoliation, switching products every two weeks, layering every “acne-safe” product TikTok recommends.
Meanwhile the skin barrier is completely overwhelmed.
And then there’s the stuff people don’t think about. We forget about hair products around the jawline or makeup not being fully removed. Things that didn’t really affect your skin as a teen or in your 20’s can start to overwhelm your skin as you age, and vice versa.
The goal isn’t to attack your skin into “submission”. 😅
It’s to calm it down enough that it can function properly again.
Most adult acne treatment starts with barrier health long before it starts with aggressive correction. If you’re looking for some guidance on why you might be experiencing acne and what you can do to start addressing it, I’d love to have you in the clinic for a consultation so we can go over your options.🤍
