Comox Valley Recovery Centre

Comox Valley Recovery Centre is licensed as a Supportive Recovery program for up to 30 men, 19 and over. CVRC has an anti-oppressive and empowerment approach.

CVRC combines evidence-based and 12 step approaches to support long term recovery. The Comox Valley Recovery Centre was founded in 1976 as a men's in-house recovery centre. It is an abstinence program that is based on the 12-step model, which has been proven to be effective in helping people recover from addiction. Over the years, the centre has incorporated different approaches and models of recovery, such as evidence-based and a First Nations perspective, to serve as many diversified clients as possible. The staff works side by side with clients to support the outcomes they desire. They are developing an ongoing holistic program that covers all aspects of clients' lives, such as life skills training, conflict resolution, and spiritual strengthening. We are not just focused on helping clients overcome their addiction but also on helping them lead a happy and fulfilling life. The caring and compassionate staff are trained to support the needs of the client base they serve. Clients are encouraged to attend outside meetings to put into practice the tools they have been working on. The centre is constantly looking for new and better ways to help the people they serve. This shows that they are not just content with the status quo but are dedicated to improving the lives of their clients in every way possible.

The Comox Valley Recovery Centre received a donation that makes a real difference.

The 100+ Women Who Care Comox Valley heard presentations from nominated local charities at a recent quarterly meeting and selected the Recovery Centre as the recipient of a large donation. The total is $17,800, representing the growing membership of 100+ Women Who Care. The group’s membership consists of 178 women, who contributed $100 each to the donation.

“Support like this makes a real difference,” said a representative from the Comox Valley Recovery Centre. “It allows us to continue providing care for people who are ready to begin recovery but may not have the resources to do so on their own, while also helping us maintain our facility.”

Comox Valley Recover Centre provides residential and community-based support for those working on overcoming substance use challenges. The $17,800 will help the centre improve and expand access to programs, including reducing financial barriers and supporting ongoing facility needs.

100+ Women Who Care Comox Valley members meet four times a year, hear brief presentations from local charities, and then vote on where pooled donations go. A follow-up meeting also happens, where members can get a look at how the donated funds are used. Grateful for the support of the excellent people from our local Legion branches. Al Astles, the Operations Manager with the Comox Legion, Branch 160 brought a donation today to support the work of CVRC. Thankful for the service of those in uniform and the support to help as many as possible.

Comox Valley Recovery Centre gets $500 donation PPCLI Association

The PPCLI Association donates $500 to the the Comox Valley Recovery Centre (CVRC).
The Mid Island Branch of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Association donated $500 to the Comox Valley Recovery Centre. The donation was made to support residential addiction recovery services for men in the Comox Valley and other communities across Vancouver Island. Jim MacMillan-Murphy, president of the branch, and Butch Montreuil, a member of the association, presented the donation to Brian Chow, the board president of the Comox Valley Recovery Centre, and Troy Dunham, CAO of the centre. “Recovery takes discipline, accountability, and the support of others,” said MacMillan-Murphy. “Those are values we believe in strongly, and this donation is our way of supporting a local organisation that helps people rebuild their lives with structure, purpose, and dignity.”
The Comox Valley Recovery Centre is a nonprofit registered charity, supporting men in addiction recovery since 1976. It provides structured and abstinence-based residential programs for men 19 and older, with programs including 30, 60, and 90-day stays, along with counselling, transitional housing, and reintegration support. It is independent and is not part of Island Health or publicly funded. “We are grateful to the Mid Island Branch of the PPCLI Association for their support,” said Chow. “The values of service, accountability, and mutual support that define the PPCLI are the same values that underpin recovery. Community donations like this help ensure these services remain available to those who are ready to take the next step.”
