Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, understood, and supported.

Childhood isn’t always easy. Some children struggle with big emotions, anxiety, ADHD, behavioural challenges, friendships, school, or life transitions. Others may not have the words to explain what they’re feeling, but their behaviour is trying to tell the story.

At Nova Psychology, we create a welcoming, child-centred environment where children can build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable. Through evidence-based therapy, our psychologists work alongside both children and parents to better understand each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and needs.

Whether your child is navigating ADHD, anxiety, emotional regulation, self-esteem, social difficulties, or other developmental concerns, they don’t have to face it alone.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give a child is a safe space where they feel heard, accepted, and empowered to grow.

Is Summer Burnout Really a Thing? ☀️

Longer days, packed calendars, vacations, family events, and trying to make the most of the season can leave many people feeling more exhausted than refreshed.

Burnout isn’t limited to busy workdays or the winter months. It can happen anytime life moves faster than your mind and body have time to recover.

Rest isn’t something you earn once you’re completely depleted. It’s something you need consistently to protect your mental and emotional well-being. Whether that means slowing down, setting boundaries, spending time in nature, or simply giving yourself permission to pause, those moments matter.

At Nova Psychology, our therapists help you recognize the signs of burnout, understand what’s contributing to it, and develop strategies that support lasting balance—not just for summer, but all year long.

Because every season deserves a version of you that feels rested, present, and well.

Self-trust isn’t built in one big moment. It’s built in the quiet moments when you choose to show up for yourself.

Every time you keep a promise to yourself, listen to your intuition, or choose what aligns with your values over what feels comfortable in the moment, you strengthen something far more valuable than confidence.

You strengthen trust.

Self-trust isn’t about always making the “right” decision. It’s about believing that whatever happens, you have the ability to navigate it.

When we constantly seek validation from others, ignore our own needs, or silence our inner voice, that trust begins to fade. But like any relationship, it can be rebuilt through awareness, consistency, and self-compassion.

At Nova Psychology, our therapists help individuals reconnect with themselves, overcome self-doubt, and build the confidence to make decisions rooted in who they are—not in fear, anxiety, or external expectations.

Because the strongest relationship you’ll ever have is the one you build with yourself.

Can children love both parents after separation? Absolutely. And they should never feel like they have to choose.

One of the hardest positions a child can be placed in is feeling responsible for protecting a parent’s feelings. When children believe they have to take sides, hide their emotions, or downplay their experiences, they often carry an emotional burden that was never theirs to hold.

In this conversation, Carly and Malisa discuss the importance of helping children feel safe to love both parents without guilt, fear, or divided loyalty. They explore how validation, reassurance, and healthy co-parenting can create the emotional security children need to thrive.

Children don’t need perfect parents. They need adults who can make space for their relationship with both caregivers while putting their emotional wellbeing first.

🎧 Listen as Carly and Malisa share practical insights on navigating co-parenting with compassion, reducing emotional pressure on children, and creating a healthier foundation for families after separation.

At Nova Psychology, we support children, parents, and families through life’s most challenging transitions with care, evidence-based guidance, and a focus on what matters most: the wellbeing of your child.

Your mind can remember an experience long after the danger has passed. Your nervous system often does too.

Trauma, anxiety, and distressing life experiences can leave your brain and body feeling stuck in survival mode, even when you’re safe. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help your brain process these experiences in a healthier way, so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity.

EMDR therapy may help:
✨ Reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories
✨ Improve symptoms of anxiety and chronic stress
✨ Decrease emotional triggers and overwhelm
✨ Strengthen emotional regulation and resilience
✨ Help you move forward without feeling held back by the past

Every healing journey is unique, and EMDR isn’t about erasing memories. It’s about changing the way those memories affect your life today.

If trauma, anxiety, or difficult experiences are impacting your relationships, work, or overall well-being, our team at Nova Psychology is here to help you explore whether EMDR is the right approach for you.

Can children absorb their parents’ stress?

The short answer is yes.

Children don’t just listen to what we say. They pay close attention to how we show up. Our tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and emotional energy often communicate more than words ever could.

When a parent is feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or emotionally unavailable, a child may quietly begin to wonder if they’ve done something wrong, even when they haven’t. Because children naturally look to their caregivers for safety, they can sometimes internalize emotions that were never theirs to carry.

In this conversation, Malisa explains why children are so emotionally perceptive, how parental stress can unintentionally impact a child’s emotional world, and why becoming aware of our own emotional responses can strengthen the parent-child relationship.

The goal isn’t to be a perfect parent. It’s to create moments of repair, connection, and emotional safety.

At Nova Psychology, we support children, parents, and families in building healthier emotional patterns, improving communication, and creating stronger connections that last well beyond childhood.

You’re still getting things done.
You’re answering emails, showing up to work, keeping up with responsibilities, and doing what needs to be done.

But underneath it all, you might feel mentally exhausted, emotionally flat, overwhelmed by small tasks, or like you’re constantly running on empty.

That’s the hard part about high-functioning burnout. It doesn’t always look obvious from the outside. You can still be productive and still be struggling.

Sometimes what looks like “just stress” can be chronic burnout, anxiety, ADHD, or a combination of factors that are keeping your nervous system stuck in overdrive.

At Nova Psychology, our team supports individuals who feel like they’re holding it all together on the outside while quietly feeling depleted on the inside. Through assessment and therapy, we help you understand what’s really going on and build practical strategies to move forward with more clarity, capacity, and support.

If this feels familiar, you don’t have to keep pushing through it alone.

For a lot of people, the hardest part of therapy isn’t the session itself. It’s getting past the voice that says, “What will people think?” or “Why can’t I just handle this on my own?”

In this conversation, Anna and Carly unpack the stigma that still surrounds therapy, especially in communities where vulnerability has often been misunderstood as weakness instead of what it really is: courage.

Therapy isn’t about something being “wrong” with you. It can be a space to understand yourself more deeply, work through patterns that no longer serve you, and feel supported without judgment. For many, simply walking through the door is already an act of strength.

At Nova Psychology, we know how much courage it can take to ask for help. That’s why we’re committed to creating a space where you feel safe, validated, and supported as you navigate whatever you’re carrying.

Because vulnerability is not weakness. Sometimes, it’s where healing begins.
