🐝 Bee and wasp stings are a common part of spending time outdoors, but it’s important to know when a sting is more than just a painful surprise.

A normal sting may cause localized pain, redness, localized swelling, or itching. A serious allergic reaction can look very different and include trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, widespread hives, dizziness, nausea, or fainting.

Knowing the difference between a typical sting and a severe allergic reaction can help you recognize when someone needs emergency care.

Summer events bring communities together, and St. John Ambulance Medical First Responders are proud to be part of the experience by providing first aid and medical support when it's needed most.

During the Heritage Festival, our volunteers were ready to assist attendees with a range of medical concerns, from minor cuts and heat exhaustion to situations requiring additional care.

Nothing says summer like gathering around a campfire, but safety should always come first.

🔥 Before lighting a fire:

- Check local fire restrictions and burn bans.
- Keep your campfire in a designated fire pit or ring.
- Clear away dry grass, leaves, and other flammable materials.
- Keep water, sand, or a shovel nearby.
- Never leave a campfire unattended.

When you're done, fully extinguish the fire with water, stir the ashes, and add more water until everything is cool to the touch.

A safe campfire helps protect you, your fellow campers, and the environment. Enjoy the outdoors responsibly this summer.
