Denise and Molly bring a quiet moment to a busy place. 🐾

At the Halifax airport, Molly's calm presence brings moments of peace to travellers' busy days. That's the thing about therapy dogs: they don't need much time to make a real impact. Sometimes it's just being there.

Long weekends are for getting away, not getting caught off guard.

Before you head out, take a few minutes to plan for the basics: pack a first aid kit, make sure you're prepared, and know where the nearest clinic or emergency services are if you’re travelling.

Small steps make it easier to deal with the unexpected on the road, at the cottage, or on the trail.

Safe trips start before you leave.

• What steps to take while waiting for help to arrive
• How to stay calm and in control when it matters most

It’s designed for real life because most emergencies happen where you live. Build the confidence to act when it counts!

Emergency Preparedness Week starts on Monday!

It's an opportunity to take action and ensure you're prepared to protect yourself, your family, and your community during an emergency! The theme this year is "Be prepared. Know your risks".

Emergencies can happen to anyone, at any time, even during something as ordinary as a hockey game. When a player suddenly collapsed on the ice, it was the quick thinking and action of his friends, guided by someone properly trained in CPR and AED use, that helped manage the situation until professional help arrived.

This story shows that knowing how to respond, staying calm, and having proper first aid training can make a real difference in critical moments. You don’t need to be a hero; you need the right skills and the confidence to step in.

First aid and CPR aren’t just skills; they’re practical tools that empower everyday people to support and protect those around them when every second counts.

Watch to see how training and preparation can make a meaningful impact in real-life emergencies.

This Earth Day, it’s a good time to think about how climate change affects our communities. 🌍

Extreme weather events, from floods and storms to heatwaves, are becoming more frequent, and they often create situations where first aid and emergency response skills are needed more than ever. Being prepared isn’t just about having a kit; it’s about knowing what to do, staying calm, and helping those around you when unexpected events happen.

Our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) program trains volunteers to respond safely and effectively during disasters, ensuring communities can recover faster and more efficiently. From first aid to disaster response, these skills make a real difference when every moment counts.

This Earth Day, consider how being ready for the unexpected helps protect both people and communities.

Happy Nation Volunteer Week!

Volunteering isn’t just about helping others; it’s about growing as a person. Through her experiences, Michelle has developed leadership skills, learned to take initiative, and discovered the deep gratification that comes from making a difference. We celebrate all the volunteers who step up, lead by example, and find meaning in giving back. Your time, care, and dedication strengthen communities and inspire those
around you.

Whether you’re on the field or cheering from the sidelines, being prepared can make a big difference. ⚽🏈

Here are a few tips for sports first aid that might come in handy this spring:

Know the basics: Learn how to handle common injuries like sprains, cuts, and concussions.
Pack a kit: Keep bandages, ice packs, and any necessary medications handy.
Stay hydrated: Bring water for yourself and others.
Have a plan: Know who to contact and where first aid stations are.
Monitor for signs: Watch for fatigue, overheating, or unusual behaviour in players.

A little preparation keeps everyone safe and lets you focus on enjoying the game.
