An interesting article about DNA and Thomas Jefferson

Opening a Bible that once belonged to Thomas Jefferson, staff at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2011 discovered a reddish-blond hair pressed between the pages.

🔎 Are you overlooking this hidden gem on FamilySearch?

Most of us have searched FamilySearch records. We’ve looked at the Family Tree. We’ve probably searched the catalog.

But have you spent much time exploring Genealogies at FamilySearch?

This is one of those resources that can be easy to pass right by—and it may contain clues about your family that you haven't found in the usual searches.

In this video, I take you inside FamilySearch Genealogies, show you what’s there, and explain how I use it as another tool in my genealogy research.

🐾 Sometimes breaking through a brick wall isn't about finding a brand-new website. It's about discovering a part of a familiar website you've never really explored.

Some ancestors become more than names on our family tree. ❤️

Christine Shannon is one of those people for me.

I discovered Christine while researching my Shannon family, and her story has stayed with me. She was only thirteen when her life took a turn that would leave its traces in records more than a century later.

I've told Christine's story before, but this time I wanted to tell it differently.

So I created a song.

🎵 She Was Only Thirteen

▶️ Watch it here:

There's a line in the song that really captures why I think we do what we do as genealogists:

“Some stories disappear.
Some are waiting to be found…”

That's genealogy, isn't it?

We find the records. We piece together the clues. But ultimately, we're finding people.

People who lived. People who mattered. People whose names deserve to be spoken again.

I hope you'll listen to Christine's song. And if it touches you, please leave a comment on YouTube and tell me:

Who have you discovered in your family tree whose story deserves to be remembered?

What happens when genealogy uncovers a story you never expected to ...
