We would like to begin our weekend celebrations by wishing our very loved Prescribing Pharmacist and the star of Parsons Park Pharmacy, Binal Pandya a very Happy Birthday!
We decided to get behind the scenes of Parsons Park Pharmacy to hear from Binal about how she succeeds as a very loved and admired Pharmacist in Edmonton.
Here's what she had to say...
1. What is your favorite thing about working at Parsons Park Pharmacy?
I love the opportunity I have here to build relationships with my patients and simultaneously with doctors working in Parsons Park Medical Clinic.
It's rewarding to help people understand their medications and be a part of a team that's focused on providing personalized, community-based care.
I get time to know my patients' concerns, health needs and working in collaboration with doctors, I think I am achieving my goal to help my patients in every possible way.
2. Why did you choose Pharmacy as a career?
Back in India, I worked in the manufacturing of a pharmaceutical company and my role was more focused on Regulatory requirements and preparing documentation for the production of pharmaceutical product.
After coming to Canada, I came to know pharmacists here are an integral part of the healthcare system.
Pharmacists combine scientific knowledge with direct patient care, whether it's answering medication questions, promoting safe medication use, or helping someone manage a chronic condition.
I also appreciate that pharmacy offers opportunities to keep learning and make a meaningful difference in the community every day.
I always enjoy helping people improve their health and health literacy.
3. What's one piece of advice/wisdom you would give to your patients?
I always recommend patients to seek professional medical advice if they have any questions.
Google is not and should not be the number one answer to all your questions.
Most of the time, people either get confused or misguided with the information available online.
Your healthcare providers will always have proper advice and the answers to all your concerns.
Also don’t hesitate to ask anything related to your health conditions or medications.
Understanding why you're on a certain medication, how to use it correctly, and what side effects to watch for, can make a big difference to your health.
4. Since COVID hit, vaccines are being deeply scrutinized what is your advice to patients who are hesitant about receiving vaccinations or vaccinating their babies and kids?
My approach is to listen first and understand the reasoning behind their hesitation without judging them.
I can then provide clear, evidence-based information about the benefits and risks, answer their questions honestly, and help them make an informed decision.
For parents, I always explain how childhood vaccines help protect their children from serious diseases and also help protect vulnerable members of the community.
Effective communication and building trust are always more effective ways to provide advice to patients and I always like to do that before imparting my advice.
5. How do the services of Parsons Park Pharmacy stand out compared to the other pharmacies in the area?
It is not only Parsons Park Pharmacy but also Parsons Park Medical Clinic that stand out in our Edmonton community, as we both have a common goal which is to provide the “best patient service and experience.”
I also like that the pharmacy is integrated with an on-site medical clinic, which can make communication between healthcare providers more seamless and convenient for patients.
Overall, the focus on personalized care, convenience, and building long-term patient relationships is what sets Parsons Park Medical Clinic and Pharmacy apart from the other healthcare facilities.
Our Medical Director, Dr. Abdul S. Tabani had a vision to provide the best possible patient care and experience to whoever comes to the Clinic and Pharmacy.
I can confidently say that today while working here, we are fulfilling his vision and that is also reflected from the patient feedback we receive in person and on Google.
