There is something remarkable about music!

When a need for a new piano in Long-Term Care was identified, the Foundation was able to purchase a new piano thanks to the generosity of our donors. Unlike a traditional piano, it can easily be moved throughout the home, allowing us to bring music to residents wherever they are.

Not long after it arrived, Cleo sat down to give it a try. She didn't remember that she knew how to play. But the moment her fingers touched the keys, the music came back.

As her daughter watched with tears in her eyes, we were reminded that music can spark connections, and bring comfort in ways words sometimes can not.

Researchers have discovered that musical memories and learned skills connected to music are often stored in areas of the brain that can remain intact even as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia progress. That's why having accessible instruments like this piano in our Long-Term Care home matters so much.

We would like to introduce you to Sylivia.

This spring, Sylivia installed a fountain at her home, and it quickly became a source of joy and peace for her.

One day, she invited a family friend, who is also an employee here at ERHHC to sit by the fountain and enjoy a coffee together. During their conversation, she learned that the fountain in the nursing home had broken.

Without hesitation, Sylivia took action.

She sourced a vendor, priced out a replacement, and walked into the Foundation ready to donate the funds needed to purchase a new fountain for our residents to enjoy.

Sylivia's story reminds us that philanthropy doesn't always have to be a large scale to make a meaningful impact. Sometimes, the most powerful gifts begin with a simple conversation, a thoughtful observation, and a desire to help. Every act of generosity, no matter the size, has the potential to improve lives and strengthen our community.

Her hope is that this simple act of kindness will inspire others to connect with the Foundation and discover how they, too, can make a difference in a way that is meaningful to them.

Thank you, Sylivia, for turning a conversation over coffee into a gift that will bring joy to so many residents, families, and staff for years to come.

💜 Overdose Awareness Month 💜

The Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre joined the Mayor and Council of the Town of Espanola for the raising of the Overdose Awareness flag.

For many, substance use and overdose have touched their lives in some way, whether through a family member, friend, neighbour, coworker, or loved one. This month is an opportunity to remember those we have lost, support those affected, and continue important conversations about awareness, compassion, and reducing stigma.

We also invite all community members to join the Overdose Awareness Walk on Friday, September 4th, at the baseball field pavilion (12pm-4pm). Together, we'll walk in remembrance, support, and hope, showing that no one is alone.

Following the walk, there will be a free BBQ and guest speakers sharing their lived experiences. We hope you'll join us as we come together as a community.

It's Christmas in July! 🎅🍦🎶

The residents got to sit in the sun, enjoying live Christmas music from Barry Hamilton while eating a delicious bowl of ice cream donated by Farquhar's Dairy, and of course, a visit from Santa.

Who says you have to wait until December to enjoy a little Christmas magic?

✨It's Prom 2026

Congratulations to our Prom King & Queen, King Garnet and Queen Ann!

Our afternoon was filled with dancing, punch and a fun balloon drop.

Some of our residents shared that they never had the chance to attend their first prom, making this celebration even more meaningful. It was a wonderful opportunity to create new memories, dress up, celebrate, and enjoy the day together.

What an Incredible Community Effort!

Thank you to the Giant Tiger customers and the dedication of the amazing cashiers, the recent in-store fundraising campaign raised an outstanding $2,000 for the Foundation!

Every dollar donated helps fund vital medical equipment and support innovation in healthcare right here in our community.

How lucky are we to have such an incredible Maintenance Team!

Time and time again, they go above and beyond to make life better for our residents. Most recently they have raised funds for a jukebox machine and a new outdoor patio set. They have also built adaptive furniture for residents in need.

We're incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people. Thank you for helping make our hospital feel like a home.
