You walk into a room where everything is falling apart. Someone is screaming, or crying, or completely shut down. And somehow you know exactly what to say. What tone to use. How to breathe so the room breathes with you.
Then your shift ends.
You get in your car. And you have no idea what to do with your own body.
No one taught us this part. We learned how to co-regulate a stranger in crisis before we ever learned how to regulate ourselves.
I built a 90 second nervous system quiz for exactly this gap. DM me GROUNDED and I'll send it your way.

Survival Mode is tough, fond sometimes and rest.

Scenario generated to show a pattern I see constantly on psych units.
I'm a psych nurse. Watch what happens in the 3 seconds no one's watching.
Everyone talks about the patient in that moment. Nobody talks about the nurse.
What happens in your nervous system when you're hypervigilant for 12 hours straight. Your baseline shifts. You stop registering small signals as urgent because your system is already maxed out scanning for big ones. That's not carelessness. That's a regulated nervous system doing what an overloaded one can't.
This is the same thing I see in burnout. Not laziness. Not inattention. A body that's been in threat-response mode so long it can't tell the difference between "notice this" and "survive this."
Comment GROUNDED and I'll send you what I use to reset a maxed-out nervous system before it costs you something.

Normal things elsewhere can be safety risk in hospital.

I'm a psych nurse. I've walked into rooms exactly like this one more times than I can count.
Here's what almost every patient tells me, once they're stable enough to talk about it:
They knew something was off. They just didn't call it a crisis.
Three signs to check against your last month:
— Sleep that's either gone or won't stop
— Not eating, or locking yourself indoors
— Thoughts moving faster than you can keep up with
None of these mean you're headed for a hospital bed. But stacked together, and ignored long enough, they add up.
You don't have to wait until it looks like this.
Comment GROUNDED and I'll send you toolkit to identify your nervous systemsta, plus what to do the moment you notice one.

Amazing grace ,how sweet that sound.......

At 2am you are not an overthinker, you are in flight mode and there is no logic online.

In psych we would never let a patient in flight mode decide their future. So why are you letting your 2:13am brain decide yours?

That replay of the entire day? That cringe from 2019? That's not your intuition talking. That's your amygdala on night shift making up threats because it has nothing to do.

Rule: Nothing gets decided after 9pm. Nothing gets solved at 2am. We contain at night, we decide at 10am.

Save this for tonight. You WILL need it.

What does your 2am brain always replay? Mine used to be work. Comment yours below, let's name it so it loses power.

- When did I last eat a real meal?
- How many hours did I sleep this week?
- When did I last go outside without a task?
- Who did I last talk to about something other than work?
- When did I last do something just because I liked it?
Bottom: We don't fix burnout with more motivation. We fix it with basics.

Nobody talks about how frustrating it is to go from high achiever to literally not being able to function normally because you were in survival mode the whole time.
It starts small. A task that used to take ten minutes now takes an hour because you can’t find the energy to start it. Then the numbness sets in. Not sad, exactly… just flat. You wait for motivation and it never comes.
The things you used to love stop pulling at you. Texts pile up. Even responding feels overwhelming. You have zero mental or emotional capacity left.
Nobody tells you burnout can look like this quiet, slow, paralyzing in a way that doesn’t look like anything from the outside.
If you’re in this season right now, you’re not alone. Recovery starts with admitting where you are.

Save this if it hit home.

Here is the list of what to chart
1. When did you last eat protein? Not just eat. Protein. Low blood sugar looks exactly like anxiety.
2. Hours of sleep? Not quality, just hours. Under 6? Your coping skills are offline.
3. Minutes outside? Not exercise, just outside. Daylight resets your clock.
4. Water? Dehydration makes you irritable, tired, and weepy. It's not always deep.
5. One real human interaction? Not texting. Voice, face, eye contact.

We chart the boring stuff because boring stuff runs your brain. Do this for 3 days before you spiral about your mood.
