An Expert Talk on Sensorimotor Control of the Human Hand at Faculty of Occupational Therapy, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER)

The human hand is a marvel of engineering, capable of performing tasks that range from the delicate strokes of a paintbrush to the precise movements required in surgery. Understanding how the brain and body work together to control these movements remains one of the most fascinating areas of neuroscience and rehabilitation.

Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER) recently had the privilege of hosting an engaging expert session on "Sensorimotor Control of the Human Hand" by Dr. Vineet Johnson, Founder & CEO of IRegained Inc., Canada.

The session brought together aspiring healthcare professionals, particularly students of Occupational Therapy, for an immersive exploration of the neural mechanisms underlying hand movement, the role of neuroplasticity, and the future of upper limb rehabilitation.

The event was graciously welcomed and facilitated by distinguished dignitaries:
Dr. Arunagirinathan, Dean – Research
Dr. Sagayaraj, Dean, Meenakshi College of Arts & Science
Dr. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, Faculty of Occupational Therapy

Dr. Vineet Johnson shared valuable insights into the intricate relationship between the brain, nerves, muscles, and sensory systems that enable the human hand to perform with remarkable precision. The discussion also highlighted the growing role of technology in bridging gaps in neurological rehabilitation and improving patient outcomes worldwide.

A key highlight of the session was the hands-on experience provided to students through MyHand®, the innovative rehabilitation device developed by IRegained Inc. Students were given the opportunity to interact with the device and gain firsthand exposure to how advanced rehabilitation technologies are being used to support individuals recovering from neurological impairments.

The live demonstration sparked enthusiastic discussions among the students, who explored the practical applications of sensorimotor rehabilitation, data-driven therapy, and the potential of technology-assisted recovery. For many, it was a valuable opportunity to witness the convergence of neuroscience, clinical practice, and innovation in action.

The enthusiastic participation of the Occupational Therapy students was a testament to the growing interest in neuroscience and the transformative potential of rehabilitation technology. A sincere thank you to Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research for providing a platform for meaningful dialogue, learning, and innovation. We look forward to many more opportunities to inspire and empower future healthcare leaders.
