Tomorrow @ 2pm, tune in to hear from Tunchai on IG Live!
Last summer, Tunchai authored a book of short poems titled, Fireweed. Fireweed is a plant with pink-purple coloured flowers that’s known to be among the first plants to grow and bloom after land is devastated by volcanoes or wildfires. Redvers shares that fireweed’s growth signals other plants to start growing too. The plant is known for its many healing properties and it illustrates the rhythm of resilience and perseverance.
Fireweed represents Redvers because just like her, fireweed is native to the Northwest of Canada. Redvers’ book conveys her ideas about healing, hope, and empowerment. It explores her experience of being a young, Indigenous, and two-spirit intergenerational residential school survivor.
Spreading Hope is one of her major actions as an Indigenous social justice warrior. She founded We Matter, a national organization & su***de prevention platform to inform and support Indigenous youth who feel like their lives aren’t important. Indigenous youth share inspirational videos, artwork and writing on the platform.
This youth-led movement creates their own empowering narrative!
