Pinecrest residents have been enjoying an unusual choir experience this summer.

The Sea Shanties and Summer Songs Program has been a unique invitation to sing traditional style sailor songs.

Members of the community have been joining us each week as Olivia Whiddon leads everyone in these rhythmic work songs used by sailors on large merchant sailing vessels during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Kenora District Services Board - Summer Camp Program joined us at Pinecrest last week for a Magic Carpet Story Hour. Residents read Eric Carle’s ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ to the visitors and assisted children in making a caterpillar craft. What a wonderful time of inter-generational fun.

Thank you to our local Member of Parliament Eric Melillo for accepting an invitation from our Pinecrest Resident Council. Resident Arlie Peterson; a member of the Pinecrest Resident Council Shared Leadership Board, gave Mr. Melillo a tour of the home and shared some insight into issues of relevance to residents of Pinecrest LTC Home; including the rising cost of food, accessibility, and access to community services.

Pinecrest is a member of the Ontario Association of Residents' Council’s. The role of Residents Council is to give residents a collective voice, advocate for their rights, and actively influence decisions affecting their daily quality of life. Each home council is an independent, self-determined group made up exclusively of people living in a long-term care home. Mandated by the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, each council is supported and facilitated by LTC staff.

🏥 Physiotherapy Aide
📍 Pinecrest – District of Kenora Homes

Join our team and work alongside our Physiotherapist supporting our residents in a rewarding healthcare environment.

Position Details:
• Monday–Friday (weekends off!)
• Full-time and Part-time
• Hours negotiable
• $26.45–$29.10 per hour

What we’re looking for:
• Experience in a healthcare setting
• Seating and mobility knowledge
• Experience with lifts and transfers (an asset)
• Passion for working with the geriatric population
• BSc in Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy, or PTA/OTA diploma considered an asset
