Is your workplace compliant with current health and safety standards?

Under regulation standard CSA Z1220 (First aid kits for the workplace), employers—including self-employed individuals—are required by law to maintain proper regulation first aid equipment on-site. Choosing the right supplies depends on your company's risk level, staff size, and workplace layout.
We offer full compliance support and supply a complete range of CSA-compliant kits to keep your team safe:
⛑️Level 1 Kits: Ideal for low-risk, small workplace environments.
⛑️Level 2 Kits: Designed for medium-risk environments or larger employee counts.
⛑️Level 3 Kits: Built for high-risk operations or high-density job sites.

Not sure which level or size your business needs? We're happy to provide personalized guidance to help you select the exact setup required for your workplace.

Did you know we train Babysitters (11+) at BraveHeart First Aid? Here are some legals to consider!

Nova Scotia does not have a single "Babysitting Act" or a strict legal minimum age to babysit. Instead, babysitting falls under child protection, criminal law, and labor regulations.

There is no exact age specified in Nova Scotia law at which a youth is legally permitted to babysit. However, the industry standard across Canada is 11 to 12 years old, which aligns with national training programs.

Nova Scotia law states that a person in charge of a child under 16 must provide supervision and care that is "reasonable in the circumstances."

A sitter must be deemed mature enough that the children in their care are never considered "abandoned" or at risk.

Nova Scotia's Labor Standards Code regulates youth employment, but informal, casual household tasks—like babysitting for neighbors—are exempt from traditional minimum-wage and formal work-permit laws.

School Hours: Babysitting shifts cannot interfere with the youth's mandatory school attendance.

Best Practice- Backup Support: A sitter under 14 should always have immediate access (within minutes) to a designated, trusted adult or parent in case of an emergency.

Sitters aged 11–13 should generally not supervise more than two children at a time, shouldn't perform high-risk tasks (like bathing or cooking on a stove), and should work shifts under 4 hours.

Overnight Rules: Youth under 14 should not babysit overnight.

The September Brave Start course in Kentville sold out, so we've added October dates.

Brave Start is a half-day course for kids ages 8 to 12 who are starting to spend short stretches of time on their own: when and how to call 911, phone and online rules, safe routines at home and on the street, and looking after small scrapes themselves. It ends with their own Brave Start certificate.

Sunday, October 18 in Middle Sackville, 1:00 to 4:30. Friday, October 23 in Kentville, 9:00 start.

$69. Book at braveheartfirstaid.com/courses/brave-start

💙 Mental health doesn't just affect how we feel—it affects how we live, work, learn, and connect with others.

Recent Canadian data shows:
📊 One in four (28%) Canadians report that their mental health symptoms affect their daily functioning.
📊 More than one-third say their mental health disrupts important areas of life, including: Work or school (31%)
🤝 Social and leisure activities (40%)
🏡 Family and home life (36%)
📊 One in seven (13%) students and workers reported missing school or work in the past week because of their mental health.

These numbers remind us that mental health challenges are common—and they can affect anyone. The more we understand, the better equipped we are to recognize when someone may be struggling and provide meaningful support.

Parents ask us this one a lot: Brave Start or Brave Babysitter?

Brave Start (ages 8 to 12) is about your child's own safety. Staying home alone for short stretches, calling 911, phone and internet rules, patching up small injuries. Half a day, $69.

Brave Babysitter (ages 11 to 15) is about caring for other children. Routines, safe play, choking relief, and the business side of the job. One day, $89.

An 11 or 12 year old could take either, so here's the honest test: are they being left on their own, or are they looking after someone else?

New backpacks, fresh pencils, and brave little hearts ready to conquer the school year!

Before your mini-explorers sprint out the door, here is your quick Braveheart Back-to-School Safety Sweep:
🎒 Pack it Right: Keep backpacks light—aim for no more than 10–15% of your child’s body weight to protect growing spines.
📞 Emergency Info Card: Tuck a small laminated card in an inner zipper pocket with parent phone numbers, emergency contacts, and any severe allergy notes.
🩹 Mini-Hero Kit: Pack a tiny tin with a few colorful bandages and a sanitizing wipe for playground scrapes. Empowering kids with their own "magic fix" builds instant confidence!
👟 Laces & Traces: Double-knot those shoes, and practice their walk/bike path to school together at least once to spot potential traffic hazards.

A little preparation turns big school-year jitters into brave adventures! ❤️
